Erased EXE

Post by uran21 »

Started Steam today, run OOB and tried to open the multiplayer match. A map would not load. Exited to desktop and closed the game. After trying to start the game again I get warning how exe is missing from a 64-bit folder. After checking the folder, indeed it was not there.

Run verification of game file integrity and it confirmed the file is missing. Now Steam is repeatedly trying to redownload the file but without success after several attempts.

What virus checker are you running? Has it quarantined the file? AVG is being super-zealous with several games at the moment

I know about AVG problem but it never interfered with Steam games, only those installed separately. Also, it gives a warning if it quarantines something but it didn't in this case.

No matter how it happened point is I want my exe back and Steam is repeating redownload without success.

Best bet is to temporarily disable your virus checker and/or restart Steam.

It's not just Order of Battle that AVG/Avast is being over-zealous with. This issue is affecting several games. We're trying to get in touch with them to find out why they're being over-zealous

Ran into same issue last night when running the in program updater. Tried to update to 6.1.9, got a "compression" error, then when trying to run the game the .exe file went missing. OK, uninstalled 6.1.9, tried to reinstall 6.1.8, same error. Tried to install 6.1.7 to start from scratch essentially, same error. I'm like WTF?? :x Finally dawned on me to disable Norton AV (which never caused install errors before), sure enough no compression errors seen and was able to install 6.1.7 and update to 6.1.8.

I switched to Webroot Secure Anywhere a couple of years back and never have any problems like with AVG, which I consider to be outdated. Best AV I've ever used.
