Correction this game hasn't finished, its continued and a victory looks likely. Report to follow when its completed.
Think it's a typo, meant to be his Rd 1 match against me that has been agreed to a draw.
Terrain unfortunately made it extremely difficult for either side to attack.
Thanks for the clarification and sorry if I contributed to the confusion. I had focused on the details and missed that it was a different Round number.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. I edited my post to show correct information - the draw is with SpeedyCM, Ironclad won the day in a different and hard fought battle.

Division C

Ludendorf (Carthaginians: Hannibal in Africa 202 BC) beats SpeedyCM (Samnites)18-45%

This battle was an odd one, and quite interesting to analyse. We both went for large, wide armies arranged in almost a single line, but Speedy managed to bring more infantry and cavalry to the fight and completely outnumbered my army in the number of elements involved. I attempted to widen my army in order to achieve my own flank attacks on at least one side, but it became apparent that even with my best efforts, Speedy was going to be able to envelop my army on both sides, or at least block my cavalry and elephants on one side while he won the other. In addition to that, the centre of my line was made up of weak Poeni foot, who were extremely vulnerable to the Samnite impact foot.

I knew I was going to have to do something a bit unusual in order to win, so as the lines approached, I began to pull in my left flank. I used skirmishers to delay the arrival of Speedy's flanking infantry and cavalry, and then engaged him with my elephants and two of my four veteran units on the right wing of my army (Speedy's left). I continued to refuse both my left and my centre, and basically refused to fight him for the 'morning' of the battle.

Speedy eventually brought my army to battle and forced me to turn around in a line perpendicular to the fight ongoing on my right. My veterans and elephants were able to smash a hole through Speedy's lines, and a cavalry unit I was originally going to flank the extreme right with managed to get an angle on part of Speedy's battle line that curved round to join with the fight that had been going on with my veterans. By chance, the cavalry charge pierced straight through, knocking aside two of Speedy's Samnite foot and disrupting a third. This cavalry unit would go on to knock out four to five units before it finally ended its rampage, and destroyed about six elements before the battle concluded.

On the left and initially in the centre, the Samnite foot prove as deadly as expected, driving in and fragmenting some of my fragile poeni and even disrupting one of my hardier scutarii units. Meanwhile, Speedy's cavalry finally arrived from driving off my skirmishers on the left and drove into and fragmented a unit of my veteran Italian foot; these men would rout before the battle ended. In the end however, the rot had set into Speedy's right flank, and I was able to carry enough of his troops from the battlefield to win the day before the situation on my left could get any worse. The battle ended with my right flank almost unengaged and the left still in trouble.

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Division B Round 3

harveylh’s Lysimachids (320-281BC) beats Herode_2’s Antigonids (320-301BC) by 58-32

My most exciting game yet in the digital league. Terrain was a big factor particularly during deployment. On my left flank an impassible stream cut off ¼ of the map. On my right flank, woods cut off about ¼ of my right flank. I needed to go forward 4 squares forward and 4 squares further right to clear the woods which would give me an open flank on the Antigonids. I deployed three cav, one elephant, and one LH on that flank. As a result I only had four pike blocks, some hoplites and medium inf to form my battleline anchored on the impassible stream. However there were 3 rough terrain squares on my left flank about four and five squares forward. Herode_2 did the prudent thing and deployed seven pike blocks. He also did the smart tactic and rushed forward with his whole army. Not what I wanted, but I was committed so I also rushed forward. My cav barely cleared the woods, but it cost me two light inf. My elephant did not make it and remained to cover the right flank of my battle line. Herode_2 did make one mistake in his rush to trap my cav and elephant and exposed the flank of one pike block. I disrupted it and that was the beginning of the collapse of his center where I had all my pikes. On my left I managed to get one medium inf on a rough terrain square and two hoplite units behind the other two rough terrain squares. This prevented him from attacking with one pike block hamstrung by the rough terrain. He only had one pike block attacking one of my hoplites head on. We both had generals and the first two turns were inconclusive. On turn 3 my hoplite general died and the hoplite disrupted and subsequently routed in two more turns. That was the beginning of the end of my left flank which collapsed completely around turn 10. In the center, I was breaking his center though that was delayed by another of my generals dying causing the disruption of a pike block. The game was decided on the right flank where I had three cav, one LH and three light inf facing one pike block, two elephants, and one cav that arrived a few turns later. Herode_2 played his elephants well, chased and managed to break my lancer cav. However one elephant pursued where I had three light inf shoot it into rout. His pike block with general charged a cav and the block becomes disrupted and then fragmented next turn. Four more full turns pass and my cav can’t break that fragmented pike block! The pike block recovers to disrupted, but two turns later my cav fragment it again. We are now on turn 12. Despite my best efforts, Herode_2’s remaining elephant with general are set to charge in the flank my cav facing his fragmented pike block. My three light inf shoot his elephant into disruption. Then his elephant with general flank charge my cav and disrupts it. Something happened which I have never seen before in FOG2 (I am relatively new having only played FOG2 since March). Herode_2’s elephant general dies and the disrupted elephant routs. My cav unit finally breaks his fragmented pike block pike and then charges and breaks a light inf. This clears a path for one of my light inf to charge and break another fragmented pike the next turn. In summary, the Antigonid general dying caused one elephant, two pike blocks and one light inf to break and prevented one Lysimachid cav unit from breaking. This was nearly a 20 point swing in scoring. The game ended one turn later.

SpeedyCM (Samnites 355-272BC) beat Hendricus (Macedonians 355-329BC) 65-54.

Extremely bloody fight where the advantage seesawed from one side to the other as the fight progressed, could have easily gone either way.

Division C Round 1

harveylh’s Gallics (390-301BC) beat Brenmusik’s Romans (490-341BC) 57-28

I’m almost embarrassed to post this battle report. Brenmusik played well and prevented my light chariots from flank charging any of his hoplites while engaged for the entire game on a fairly open battlefield. His light infantry were brilliant. I did flank and rout one Roman cav with my light chariots. Brenmusik had poor but not terrible luck. However it was the timing of the luck that defeated the Romans. The Roman’s first two hoplite charges ended in disrupted units. Two of the first three Gallic charges ended in disruption for Roman units. So after the first full turn of battleline combat the Romans had four disrupted hoplite units. The Romans did have average luck after that, but it was too late.
