The manual says that a General's death is "more likely to happen" when the unit loses the melee but the odds are never really defined.
I assume that the chance is less when the melee is a draw but what about when when the melee is a clear win ?
I was reading the "Ignominious General Deaths" thread but the examples there were losing or indecisive melees
My questions are:
How are the odds determined in causing a General's death?
Can a General get killed in a winning melee?
Can a General die in a winning melee?

He can still die when winning but smaller chance.

Re: Can a General die in a winning melee?
The test for "general fallen" is made after each close combat is resolved. If the general's unit is fighting multiple enemy units, this test will be taken after the combat against each enemy unit is resolved.
For each test taken, the chance of "falling" is 1 in 30 in a lost combat, 1 in 90 in a drawn or won combat.
For each test taken, the chance of "falling" is 1 in 30 in a lost combat, 1 in 90 in a drawn or won combat.

Thanks for the information !
Re: Can a General die in a winning melee?
I've gotten at least one general killed while fighting a fragmented unit to routed with a 100% chance of winning the fight. Must have been the one guy in the fragmented unit who decided not to give up.

It happens all the time to me. I've had generals and my opponents generals die in a winning or neutral melee and send a morale bomb through six different units changing the course of battle. Its one of those bolts from the blue, like an elite unit double dropping on a tiny loss chance or a careening pursuit colliding with just the right part of a key unit to flank them and send them running for their lives. Play enough battles and you'll find it'll happen more often than you'd think.

Well it’s 1 in 30 so it does happen “often” if you have hundreds of battles under your belt.Ludendorf wrote:It happens all the time to me. Sometimes they cluster in a single battle. Many generals falling off their horses.
