Re: My dream
The biggest problem with combining grand strategy to in-depth tactical combat is that there's usually long periods without battles and when there are battles they are usually not that interesting. Grand strategy and tactical combat don't really support each other since fighting fair and interesting battles/wars with uncertain outcomes is awful strategy and one sided victories with a ton of mundane cleanup battles make for boring tactical gameplay.
Sword of the Stars combined very nice and detailed tactical combat with fairly detailed 4X game but it always took forever to get into the battles and by the time you got there it was rarely interesting because of the strategic imbalance. Total War games are the only ones that have managed to mix at least somewhat detailed grand-strategy layer with potentially interesting tactical battles but even there the strategy portion pales in comparison to something like Crusader Kings 2 and vast majority of the battles are decided before they are joined.

But battles are too frequent than reality.Total War games are the only ones that have managed to mix at least somewhat detailed grand-strategy layer with potentially interesting tactical battles but even there the strategy portion pales in comparison to something like Crusader Kings 2 and vast majority of the battles are decided before they are joined.

Re: My dream
I think one could "save as" often and hand edit the saved game files to "adjudicate" a battle between stacks with FOG2 within the Paradox games (each army stack has an individual name/strength stat , easy to find in the text based save game file). I was able to apparently with success ( experiment only ) with EU3, but never found the time to create the actual "in house" rules around such file editing/battle resolution ( With P&S of course) A lot of experimenting would be needed to determine how the Fog battle translates to what you expect the "in the strat. game" repercussion would be..)matlegob wrote:Hello,

in case no one has heard of it the Berthier campaign manager is pretty darn good ( it really works best operational or even grand tactical though, not strategic...) Of course if you had your own strategic system in place you easily could use it for regional operations..
Re: My dream
I think this kind of game could be exactly what I thiking about: http://www.slitherine.com/products/723/ ... cient.Rome
The FOG2 could be a marvellous part of this game!!!
Let's go, make it possible
