Commander - Europe At Wat (JVM Exception)

Post by lawrencefirst »

I downloaded Ceaw_v106b on Oct 24. I too cannot start the game as it refers to the JVM
not being able to start. My Reference # is 5276849915.

This is unnacceptable! I need a definitive remedy asap or I will simply instruct MC
to dishonour payment.

I tried your hotfix and it didn't work. It seems to me that this game, (as potentially desirable as it appears to be for us strategy buffs), needs some tweaking.
Please either mail me a reliable fix, credit my credit card, or I'll have no other option
but to contest the payment and negatively blog the game. Sorry, but when you buy
something on-line and encounter technical problems with the download, which are
apparently not unsual with this game, the seller has an obligation to make things right. Looking forward to your reply.

I'm sorry you are having problems. We think we have resolved these issues in Commander Napoleon at War and are retrofitting the fixes to CEAW to rectify them for anyone who has them (it's a very small minority) in CEAW. This is not yet ready but as soon as it is we release it. Thanks for your patience.

Can you tell us the details of your PC as it might help track down the problem. Did you order a digital download from here or another web site? It's as frustrating for us as it is for you - it is related to a windows update just stopping the game from working on some machines.

Yes, I ordered the download from the Slitherine Site. You can track the order with the
following reference number supplied by the site: 5276849915.

I REALLY don't want to be a hard head and go through the Mastercard complaint process.
But....I DO want the game to work. Please keep me posted. Tx

Gentlemen:

Its been several weeks since I wrote you detailing the problems I've had with the C-EAR download. The game still will not open even after downloading the hotfix.

You've asked me to be patient. Since you've had details as to my OS for some weeks, please indicate specifically how much longer you'll need to resolve the problem. If that period is going to be much longer, I'm asking you, formally, to credit my MC account puruant to this purchase and order number:
5276849915. Please advise me as to your decision at our earliest. Thankyou.

From the error message, it seems like a memory problem. Some machines have problems allocating memory despite having 1 GB RAM, Have you any special settings on your machine such as disabling virtual memory or anything?

Is it possible for you to upgrade memory by another 512 or 1 GB ?

Gentleman:

Your advertised minimum system requirements for this game are as follows:

P4 1.4GHz (Mine is 1.8GHZ)
512 MB Ram (I have 1 G Ram)
Windows 2000 or newer. My OS is recent XP incorporating the latest Java
300MB Hd space available. I have well over 100 Gigs of HD space available.

My computer exceeds these requirements. Thats why I bought the game. Now you
want me to spend more money adding ram with no guarantee the problem will be resolved.
I think not. I ask you again, Formally: Will you please credit my MC account? Thank you.

Do you have any other programs running in the background? And, as Johan asks, have you for some reason disabled virtual memory?

In terms of the OS, which Service Pack are you using? It might make a difference.

I am sure that Iain will contact you regarding any refund or the like, should we not be able to get you running. Please be aware that he is out of the office at the moment, so that is the cause for any delay.

Cheers

Pip: As I indicated in earlier mail, my S.P is 2600, (3 build).

I have not disabled any virtual memory.

Reiteraed note: I run Slitherine's "Great Battles Rome" with no problems.

Lawrence, have you tried running as administrator?
We also have a 1.07 beta that should solve some technical difficulties
viewtopic.php?t=7937

Please let me know how it worked out.

Great Battles doesn't use Java, so unfortunately it running doesn't help us track down the issue. It could well be worth trying the patch that Johan has linked to.

Cheers
