Units.csv file issue

Post by kondi754 »

I have a question for all experienced modders (I have no idea about it  ), I hope you help me.
I tried to modify units.csv file in the game directory. I changed several coefficients of 2 units and saved the changes in the file.
Unfortunately, no units appear on the map when I try to start any campaign or scenario now.
I understand that it has to do with the fact that I modified this file.
Does anyone know what should I do to make the game work properly after changes in the units.csv file?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I think there is a problem when you saved the file units.csv (?)
If no units appears, it's like there is no units.csv file for the game.

After all, you created your own Forgotten Units Mod, so you had to modify this file more than once.

Yes, before I have created some mods for Panzercorps.

Thank you very much.
I've searched the forum, but I could not find the right thread.

kondi, if your computer setup is like mine, Windows may not be allowing you to make changes directly in a file in C:\Program Files. It makes it seem like you are making changes but when you save the file, it does not keep the changes. What I found I had to do was to make a copy of the file on my Desktop, edit it there, and then copy it back over the file in C:\Program Files. You need Administrator privileges to do this.

The other thing I can mention is that units.csv must be handled strictly as a csv file in a csv editor. If you are trying to use something else like Excel, which imports a csv file into their spreadsheet format and then offers to "Save as CSV," that's not the same thing. Terminator pointed you in the right direction in this regard; use one of those programs (by the way, I am back to using CSVed, which really is better than the others but has a steeper learning curve).

Don't know any of the other programs, so I won't comment them. I like using MS-Excel. It worked (and still does) like this for me.
But don't forget to ALWAYS make backups of original files (and working copies).

I think that the best solution is to make modifications in a mod.
You can use my mod to try modifications without risk.
If I want to make a modification of which I am not sure of the result I make a copy of my mod and I make the modifications in this copy.

If someone wants to make modification with the file units.csv, here is a "mod" with only the original file units.csv :
