Evolution from legionnaire to veteran legionnaire

Post by matlegob »

Hello,

first thak you for the great DLC you release last week!!!

Then, I noticed that when the legionnaries (the one with the sqaure shield) evolve into veteran legionnaire, the new legionnaires have not a square shield

In the same way when poor legionnaries evolve to legionnarie the model is not the one with the sqaure shield

You are correct. This is because we have 2 normal legionary models (late republican and early imperial) but only one model for each of raw, mediocre and veteran legionaries, and only one upgrade path per unit type.

Roman equipment evolved steadily throughout the Imperial period, and the graphics budget did not allow us to represent every stage of this development.

The "square" semi-cylindrical shield evolved into a more oval shape by the mid 2nd century AD, and the Praetorians were issued with the new oval shaped shields even earlier. So the "square" semi-cylindrical shield that most people think of as the "typical" legionary shield was only actually in use for about 150 years for normal legionaries and 100 years for Praetorians.
