It would be great if the existing campaign system could be adapted for 2 player multiplayer. I assume that it would be easier to do this than with the map based ones that occurred in the predecessor games to FOG 2. I'm sure that there would be wide support in the community and a willingness to pay for a new package incorporating this.
If this is a runner it would be ideal if each side could input their own preferences for options at each stage with a randomised weighting to determine whose option would be selected. If this would overcomplicate things, then an acceptable alternative, in my view, would be where the player initiating the campaign would exercise option choices as now for single player, and the opponent would command the opposing armies based on those choices.

2-player Multiplayer campaigns are certainly on our wishlist.

Re: Campaigns for Multiplayer
I've seen several fan made campaigns in the Tournaments and Leagues section. I haven't managed to grab a spot in one of them up to now, but they seem fun.
You could make a platform that helps the GMs (moderators?) of each campaign to manage it. I mean, no need to build an AI or other automated features, just a console were players can insert their decisions / moves, maybe their diplomatic PMs, and where the GMs can easily prepare whatever they need to prepare, manually. Maybe a manually edited map. Something like Vassal for board games or Roll20 for rpgs. Imagine how better it would be to have the GM set up a battle with the proper lists and terrain and then "add" the opposing players. Each player then would see his next campaign battle in his multiplayer games tab.
I think that something like this would make the currently fan created multiplayer campaign far more popular and would open up a whole new aspect for the game.

Agreed, but it isn't a simple task so would require some time to develop. Also, it would inevitably be more restrictive than the current manually operated campaigns, each of which has its own unique rules.Ktonos wrote:I've seen several fan made campaigns in the Tournaments and Leagues section. Re: Campaigns for Multiplayer
Aside from "Play by mail" concept, is there a plan for the distant future to add a direct multiplayer option? Like a turn based 1 vs 1 or even a 2 vs 2?
I think the current multiplayer is quite handy, especially if someone does not have that much time. But sometimes I want to play a match longer in a row and then it's a bit of a hassle to have to wait for the save and not be able to play the match directly in the game. I also think that there are some other here zhat are thinking the same way and surely they would like to pay for it.

I believe it is on the engine wishlist. Breath-holding, however, is not recommended.Witan wrote:Aside from "Play by mail" concept, is there a plan for the distant future to add a direct multiplayer option? Like a turn based 1 vs 1 or even a 2 vs 2?
