When I posted the opener to this topic I was trying to say goodbye. I realised that I had reached the limit of my abilities to create any new mods for Legion Arena. Even with the release of the mod files I can't see any way forward for me. I had hoped for great things and that my enthusiasm would prove to be infectious. Sadly, that has not been the case and, apart from Tora_Tora_Tora, when I stopped so did any forward progress.
I still pop in several times a day to see what's happening, but that's all.
Finally I issue an open challenge to the more articulate and informed members, have a look at the website mentioned in my opening post. Think about this, are you content to be a big fish in a small pond or are you prepared to swim with sharks? If you like what you see, mention my name, Jim Poulton aka M. Spedius Corbulo (62 years old).
I wish you all the very best for the future.

It's really sad to see you leave, spedius01.
Now, I got modding xls. and localisar.exe, I can check my Japanese version all by myself.
Prebattle briefing's and army camp screen's font is what I'm trying to tweak.
And I guess, adding some new units for fun, super heros from viking sagas might be fun.
Or, if I had enough time, I could design shield's crest, adapting from Japanese traditional crests.
Venturing out huge roman history world and ancient wars, this game is one of the best step into there.
I began to read roman history in Japanese, there is famous writer who lives in Italy who write about roman empire.
And I bought several osprey's books in Japanese. Some of the translation is not so good, due to scholars' writing is
hard to translate, their way of logic and assumptions and conclusion with some reserve is hard to translate.
Though Paintings are really informative.

Thank for your kind words, it would seem that you're the only one who will miss me? Don't be put of by my decision to stop, you keep on trying. I applaud your enthusiasm, well done, 10 karma points.
I feel kinda' foolish, the day after I wrote my heart-felt goodbye speech the ISP pulled the plug on RomanArmy and RomanArmyTalk. Jasper, the webmaster, is busy trying to find a new home.
So, you're stuck with me for a while longer. I'll always look at this Forum with a certain fondness. It was here that I first rediscovered the art of conversation through writing. Thanks to Legion Arena, Iain, Slitherine and each one of you, the members.
Onto the Modding front, you need some "new blood", some new energetic, imaginative person or persons who have an overwhelming curiosity about what makes things tick. He, she or they also need the skills or experience to be able to "open up" Legion Arena and expose it's innards. Then to reassemble it in many different and exciting combinations. Perhaps that someone is Magobarca?
Let me try a simple analogy on you, a jigsaw puzzle. Iain and the Slitherine team have all of the pieces we have only a few. We have clues as to the location of some more but will never have them all. I've "dropped the baton" it's up to someone else to pick it up and complete the race.
Those of you who have read my posts will know that my main interest lies in the study of Roman Military Diplomas (RMDs). I'm using this down time to "sow seeds" all over the internet. I read somewhere "The mighty oak is a seed that stood it's ground". I'm trying, single-handedly, to generate interest and a following in RMDs, many seeds will die but it only takes one and we're off and running.
Another analogy is Hansel and Gretel with their breadcrumbs. For breadcrumbs read seeds in my case.
I tried to plant a "seed" in RTW only to have my topic locked and told that I was creating "spam" and not to do it again. It's somewhat ironic really as the link included in my post was to a website that was very pro-RTW.
If I was cynical, which I'm not, I would create an alternative persona and have conversations with myself. This could be done to stimulate false activity and thus maybe generate some interest in my monologue/dialogue. However, I'm a long way away from trying something as underhand as that, I think? Whilst I'm on this subject, it isn't unreasonable to have questions and answers within an article. So can this be likened to talking to yourself?

If we were able to allow you to create your own missions would that interest anyone? It would not be fully featured and would be painful to use!
Thank you for your kind words.
I can only speak for myself when I say yes to your question. I'm not sure how much time I could devote to unravelling it though.
I'm currently working with a mate of mine, Colin, we're preparing diplomas for inclusion in a database. He's writing macros to simplify and speed up this massive task. My idea is to input images and text together into a searchable database, the ultimate resource. This database does not exist on the internet at the moment and it'll probably take me a few years to complete. The majority of texts are relatively simple to get hold of, the images are not and that's where the real challenge lies. I'm slowly making contacts in an attempt to resolve that issue. We're talking about between 800 and 1,000 images scattered all over the world.
As you can see I've been less than idle whilst I've been away.

These diplomas that you are trying to catalogue, what types of information do they contain?
If you would like to learn from the information that I've already posted about diplomas, please take a look at the following pair of topics.

OK, I have relented.
I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do though.
What have you been up to, anything interesting?
BTW, my famous misquote should have been "Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held it's ground", better?

You are young, when compared to me.
I do envy grimsta his youth, and , to echo you, oh to be young again.
I probably wouldn't have spent seven years in the army, but that is another story.
If I could re-live my life and if I were intelligent enough, I would've liked to have had a higher education.
What have you been up to on your side of the pond, anything interesting?

tora_tora_tora, your earlier post about translations and paintings about Rome reminded me that most of the paintings were done long after the fact, and are not necessarily accurate. Some are so far off as to be humorous. Many sculptures, on the other hand, are from the original time period, such as those on Trajan's Column, so you can get a lot more realistic view of the uniforms and equipment. Unfortunately, the original paint and stuccoed finishing on many of the statues and sculptures have worn away or been "cleaned" off, so we have very little information on the proper colors of most of the uniforms and emblems.
