The game is stuttering a bit ... occasional lags, not just in mouse movement but overall. Not severe, but surprising: this is a new machine and much more powerful than my old one, on which FoG ran flawlessly. FPS are typically in the 90s, Vsync is off, I'm running in Windowed mode with normal shadows, animations are off, no anti-aliasing. I tried to attach the DxDiag.txt but I get a warning that "The extension txt is not allowed". So here's a link to it on Dropbox instead: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8vbw67hap7hfx ... g.txt?dl=0 I'd appreciate your insights!
Thanks!
Tim
Slight stuttering...
Re: Slight stuttering...
please make sure the game is using the video card and not the onboard GPU/CPU combo
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 Dedicated Memory: 128 MB
v's
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Dedicated Memory: 6052 MB
ones will rock, the other will stutter
Code: Select all

Re: Slight stuttering...
I'm very sure it's running on the proper GPU. There is bundled software with this system that shows temperature and load and whether the "discrete GPU is idle".
Re: Slight stuttering...
as no one else with a spec as good as yours has reported it, still mention it's something at your end, not game related, so here's a few windows 10 tips for laptops
alters the way the laptops saves power, in power saving mod and on batteries it can and does slow down the cpu and or sleep the HDD also
some games use it, others don't, but to be sure, add it in all the same, as it doesn't or won't hurt
make sure all pre requisites are pre installed with a given game, 32bit first, then the 64bit, this is the correct way to install them
again some games look for media player to be the default, not all but a few do, not this game for sure, but adding it in as by default it's not installed will help again with windows 10 backwards compatibility
as almost no older game supports the game bar, and as most user will never use the features it has, best advice is to turn it all off
same as above, as in as it's an extra
Re: Slight stuttering...
disable the tool on start up and retest and see if its the tool and or anything else in the background, eg check AV logs etc and see if you have a none friendly AV which scans game files in the background etc, as something on your end is stopping a game process in the back ground and slowing down the game slightly, as it doesn't and shouldn't happen.TJD wrote:I'm very sure it's running on the proper GPU. games work flawlessly on windows 10

Hey Zakblood, thank you very much for putting so much time and effort into your replies. You go above and beyond. I agree that games work flawlessly on Windows 10 and that the issue is not with the game but with some peculiarity of my system. I'll track it down and your suggestions are very helpful.
Re: Slight stuttering...
let me know how you get on, and if needs be can look some more if needed, but yes some quirk on windows 10 your side, but either way will help sort and fix it, as that's what we are here for, so you can enjoy the game more

Hey Zakblood, I think I found the fix. I set the game to run in Full Screen mode, then went to the Nvidia Control Panel and set up a separate profile for the game and turned Vsync on. I don't know why capping the frame rate at 60 in this way fixed the problem but it did. Runs perfectly smoothly now, no hangs. Thanks again for your help!
Best,
Tim
