Challenge Random Map Battle

I got an email indicating that the Challenge Random Map Battle had begun and I saw a game in the multiplayer lobby for this. I haven't clicked on the game yet because I wanted to find out more about it first. Is it a tournament? I don't want to start something that will require a big time commitment because I am currently play one FoG2 match and 4 other games PBEM (play by mail). Thanks.
