Todt Specialization

Post by rupd3658 »

Is the unit from the Todt specialization just another engineer or can it do anything special?

Basically a really weak engineer unit.

I've made good use of it on scenarios where I wanted to use lots of mines.

Are the mines cheaper or is it just a unit that you can't use for anything else?

The Bautruppe lacks the ability to detonate infrastructure compared to regular engineers. Mines always cost 20 to place, clearing 0.
They normally cost 0 supply/command, but they come with a truck that costs 1. If you remove the truck, you basically got a free worker unit for the second line. No idea yet if they get replaced when getting killed/disbanded during a campaign.

If mines cost 20 to place, then I must have run into a bug, because I'm almost certain that my Bautruppe placed them for free.

Sadly, can not confirm. 20 RP for me.

And how do you remove the truck?

Oops, the noUpgrade trait prevents the removal of the truck. What a shame!
Now I know why they gave the unit itself 0 Cmd/Supply, so it only costs 1 with truck. I had no real use for that unit so far, but I guess it could come handy later if you play more defensive missions. I'm still waiting for the non-beta update until I start Panzerkrieg with my freshly played Blitzkrieg-core.

What you can do if you want to remove the transport of the Bautruppe (I discovered it by accident), is let your unit die, then when you "revive" the unit from the graveyard, it comes without transport and also at 0 CP.

13obo, you saved my day! :D
I've just tested it quickly: very strange but when my original Bautruppe died and got revived, I noticed a copy of it in the reserve with truck! An exploit? Keep it dying and reviving and you got an army of 0-Cmd worker units!?
I'm going to test it further when I got the time.

They are too pathetic to make a difference though. That's why I left the unit to die in the first place (I don't let other units die). But whatever makes you happy!

I'm not very impressed by this unit either, but I only imagine now several ones at 0-cmd cost assisting with entrenchments in the many defensive missions that will come against the Soviets and later Allies. That would be clearly a shameless exploit though if it's actually possible to dupe them over and over again.

Another "exploit" I noticed is that the Bautruppe from Blitzkrieg carries over to Panzerkrieg in your core. However, you get a new one in Panzerkrieg as well, so you can end up having two. If this is not fixed, and your core carries over to the third expansion, then you'll already have 3 bautruppe units.

Ah, that's why I had two Bautruppe units when I tested it in the first mission of Panzerkrieg. Yes, I exported my BK-core too for this.
I could let one of two die and revive it, but after letting both die in the same turn, I could only revive a single one again. This one still lacks the truck though. Okay, so much about the dream of Organisation Todt flooding the world...
