OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
I'm playing U.S. Pacific and as I worked through the different scenario's the crashes started and got worse and worse. Trying to move on to the Philippines scenario I receive a constant crash. It happens when I finish loading the Campaign.sav to move on to the Philippines.
Please fix this.
I played the Blitz campaign all the way through without crashes so it's nothing to do with the video as all my settings are the same???
I added a DxDiag file.
I'm running 5.2.3 32 bit on WIN7 with dual monitors.
(note: I thought I had upgrade to 64bit so I am surprised to still see the 32bit notation)

Here, I try again.zakblood_slith wrote:sorry no DxDiag file attached
Oh, it says the extension txt is not allowed. Why is it not allowed?
Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
you can always add it to a zip file then attach, sorry about this
Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
Okay, here's the zip file.
Whew, its hard on this old man.

Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
here are my findings and in order of the report,
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_ldr.170913-0600)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 Dedicated Memory: 192 MB
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (59Hz)
Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
Monitor Model: HP 2709
Monitor Id: HWP283F
Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
Monitor Model: DELL U2518D
Monitor Id: DEL413A
Native Mode: 2560 x 1440(p) (59.951Hz)
Realtek High Definition Audio Date and Size: 6/23/2015
so first question is do you use 2 monitors?
but you don't have a graphics card installed?
or no drivers for one anyway?
the onboard CPU/GPU won't be able to display such a large size screen res with the amount of memory onboard and on larger maps will fail and crash, each and every time, this is a memory and hardware issue, not game related (well it is as the game is trying to display a image size that the graphics display can't handle so will always crash, but this isn't an issue with the game as such, just the hardware and monitor and size of the resolution used etc )
the higher the resolution the more onboard memory is used and needed, and was never meant to be used for onboard graphics chips trying to display 4k sizes.
to be blunt, there is no way to fix this issue on our end, it's all 100% on yours, and i'm sorry to say i'm surprised you have got as far as you have in the game on the hardware you have, to make it easier,
if you add a single file to a game and display it, each time you go up a resolution, the amount of ram needed on the GPU also rises by a given factor,

this is the minimum spec posted for the game, which your spec doesn't even meet at the lowest setting i'm sorry to say,WOS: XP/ Vista/ 7/ 8 /10
Processor: Pentium 4 or equivalent
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: 512 Mb DirectX 9 video card with shader model 2.0
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 1 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card
Graphics: 512 Mb DirectX 9 video card with shader model 2.0
Display Memory: 1824 MB
Dedicated Memory: 192 MB
Shared Memory: 1632 MB
shared memory is system memory that isn't counted as base memory when a spec is given out, as it's states video card, which you haven't got, you have a onboard chip, which is CPU doing the job of both, and is one reason why it's slower and also doesn't have the base memory available for some games, this is at 1920x1080p, going above this and trying to use a 4k monitor and res, just makes the matter worse, as for running a 4k res, you need a minimum of 1.5 to 3gb base memory on a card for a correct display of 4k, this is why most 2gb cards don't recommend going past a given res and or won't display large images and crash, as the chucks of data sent to it, are larger than the base memory can handle, it can't farm it out to the system memory or you get lag at best and or a crash at worst i'm sorry to say.
Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
second point is, there has never been a upgrade to 64bit in you O/S, it would have taken a new install, as 32bit can't be updated to 64bit in windows 7 as far as i'm aware and secondly, here is something you might find useful to explain what's needed to play with the monitor you have bought
Code: Select all
https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/what-hardware-do-you-need-to-run-stuff-at-4k-resolution-on-your-pc/so now your on a 64bit version of windows 7, you need to uninstall the version on the game you own and use the newer download from the members section for the 64bit version for you to carry on playing, but first you need to sort out some out of date drivers for sound, and think also if your going to want to use the newer 4k screen you have bought, you will need at some point in time to get a video card to use it, keep asking the onboard to display it once will or may crash the game on the larger battles, but using 2 displays and one being 4k will always crash your system and it just doesn't have the GPU power to do it.64-bit operating system
Upgrading your operating system to a 64-bit operating system will require you to purchase a 64-bit version of the operating system at a retail store or an online store. You will not be able to download the installation package for a 64-bit operating system over the Internet. For the Windows operating system, there are 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10.
Note: Windows 10 is available for download only as an upgrade, not as a full installation package or to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. The downloadable upgrade may only be available within the first year after the Windows 10 release date. After the first year, you may be required to purchase an upgrade copy at a retail or online store.
Microsoft Windows 7 professional and above have a 32-bit and 64-bit disc in the box. If you've installed a 32-bit version of Windows, but realize you have a 64-bit processor, you can install the 64-bit version of Windows on the computer. However, you cannot use the Windows 7 64-bit disc to upgrade a 32-bit version of Windows 7. You need to erase everything and do a new install of the 64-bit version of Windows using the 64-bit disc.
Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
regarding personal advice on what now to do, uninstall the game seems the best advice, then re download the 64bit version and start again,
don't use the newer 4k monitor, or 2 monitors of any sorts and you should be ok for most battles, but some larger ones may still hang or crash your system i'm sorry to say, unless you lower everything in game and run a very bare system and game, but in the end, the system you have, may or may not have the correct slot to upgrade to a GPU / video card, so without knowing what make and model and bios your running it's hard to say really, but a gaming card, even a low end one, around the same price range of your 5k monitor may help you with the game for the next year or so, but depends on how old etc, as M/B and PSU may not cope either with a new card, so then it's a lost cause i'm sorry to say if you can't upgrade etc

Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
Thank you for taking the time to analyze my problem.
I have a HP Elite Desk which is the tiny "tower" so I'm not sure how to get a video card in it.
BTW: I play a lot of games with high video and this is the only game that I have a problem with. Too bad this game has such different requirements.

Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
Integrated GPU on a mainly Business mini pc is yes impossible to upgrade, there used to be external video cards you could use but cost so much it was cheaper to buy another mini or midi tower system instead for less cost and have a card internally, sorry
Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
Yea, I contacted HP and no way to upgrade a video card. Like I said before, OOB is the only game I'm having this trouble with and I run some very intensive video games so too bad for me.
I do have a much older PC that maybe could run it so I will try and see. I want to finish the OOB Pacific. I assume I just need to transfer the saved game to my other one.
Side note to Slitherine - to expand your player base you might try to enable the game to run on these mini towers. Its a great game.

Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
it should run fine on one monitor at the lower res, but on two and the higher one in the mix on the hardware is asking maybe a bit too much tbh
Re: OOB Crashes - U.S. Pacific
have just found a list on a game my friend is testing atm
as you can plainly see, as the Resolution and game reset rises, so does the amount of hardware and memory on the GPU side is needed, and base memory for that matter and also horsepower eg CPU, while this is a top end game, with high end graphics, the same or similar rule applies to all game !!!!!!
on a low preset in a game, on a bog standard Resolution, with a non 4k monitor used, most of the war games on the forum / board / site can be used with onboard, unless it states otherwise, if it says minimum is 500mb on a card, and you have onboard with 500mb, as it's not a card, it may or may not work, it's that's simple.
but as the Resolution goes up, and if the game is set to the highest quality, then the MINIMUM specification no longer applies as so does the demand of the game, also the hardware needs to be higher, once a MINIMUM has been posted, that's the bare MINIMUM to run the game on the lowest setting, not the highest and never at 4k and yes i agree this information needs posting somewhere, but as most know it, and only a few are affect by it, it's something that will be sorted out over time, so sorry for the news and yes just cope the save games to another pc, and the game will follow on
