I thought i was getting free heals in the field. But NOPE! And no elite replacements....
So why should i spend 10 points on a lousy jeep?
Purpose of the medical unit?

Same here!
Picked the JEEP and (in PANZERKRRIEG) took the BAUTRUPPE.
Reloaded and didn't chose them again.
Wonder if anyone really feels that this unites legitimates the cost?

Re: Purpose of the medical unit?
an age old question. this was raised over and over again over the last 5 years, and likewise with the supply ships repair skill not having the elite repair option.
still, they have chosen not to add the option, nor apparently even to include code that would allow us to mod it.
as it stands, use the jeep as a decoy. that's about all it's good for.

The bautruppe is at least useful as a 1CP engineer for defense scenarios.
Not like I had anything else to spend the spec points on.

...actually, now that I think on it (it was a couple of years ago I played us marines), I seem to recall using the jeep this way:
1. position the jeep a unit's movement behind a chokepoint with lots of enemies.
2. buy cheap fodder soldiers like engineers, and run them into the defenders.
3. atttack once, go back to the jeep, heal, go back and attack again. you wear down the defenders as if you were mobile artillery. I think they just get tired of you bleeding on them.
4. now attack with your main troops.
I think it worked out pretty well, but was very situational. only really came in handy on maps with very long distances or slow moving between where you can add new units, and you needed to attack a fortified position but didn't have any artillery handy to soften them up for your experienced units to get a clean finish.
I think I only bothered with trying it on one or two maps in the whole campaign.

Re: Purpose of the medical unit?
I loved the Medical Jeep in the Downfall scenario (invasion of Japan at the end of the US campaign), because it doesn't have the "Fleeting Presence" trait. I never used it to heal/repair units, but I capture a LOT of hexes with it, as it is quite fast and manoeuvrable.

That's exactly the same for what I use it also. A lot of unguarded towns in Downfall.koopanique wrote:I loved the Medical Jeep in the Downfall scenario (invasion of Japan at the end of the US campaign), because it doesn't have the "Fleeting Presence" trait.
