Does idle time show up in replay ?

Post by Stimovsky »

In one of my recent games, I had to take care of something and left the game running for some time.
Then I completed my turn and uploaded it to the server. When I opened my opponent's turn, I had to go through 30 minutes of waiting for his first movement.

Was that some kind of a bug or a deliberate action from my opponent to sanction my lack of availability for him ?

Not sure what your opponent did but I can confirm that if you leave the game hanging during your turn it records the wait so it takes for ever for your opponent to be able to see your turn. I had an opponent who did it a couple of times not realising and when he played straight through his turn the problem disappeared.

Not a good idea to leave it hanging. You can save in MP and return to it wghich does not cause a problem. Much better for your opponent.

Maybe this should go to the Suggestions thread. I won't feel comfortable anymore taking my time to think about my next move if I know I'll inflict that burden on my opponent.

Normal thinking time doesn't cause an issue. Its if you leave it for half an hour or so. As I say you can save your turn and return to it when ready if that is easier.

What you can do is to take screenshots (F2 key) of the actual situation on the battlefield, save the game and use those screenshots to ponder over and plan your next move. That way you won't have to worry that your opponent will have to wait a bit that might feel too long for him (or her) when you send it over for the next turn.

There is an update that pauses the game when it is left without something happening in MP. I would expect this to be in the latest released version, but I could be wrong. It is worth noting that there needs to be many (many) hours of empty time for it show up meaningfully.

I reported this as a bug in MP when I first encountered it. I didn't realize that the playback recorded down time. Recently, I've received long phone calls from family during a MP game so sometimes long pauses in play happen. Just have patience and wait the replay out.

It should be in the next patch (after Christmas).
