Best way to play lancers?

Post by FightingPoultry »

hi there - what is best way play lancers eg Macedonian prodromoi. I possibly read somewhere ( cant remember where) that they are effective against enemy heavy infantry including pikemen on account that they are using lances, but just wanted to verify this - i am assuming they are flank shock troops against said units rather than head on and are they equally effective against cavalry as well ?

Lancers are mounted shock troops, so several troop types are less effective when dealing with them in the impact segment. It is all summarized in the rulebook (pages 80 - 81).

But don't expect any results against superior heavy foot, particularly almost any type of Roman legionary - even a cataphract general will just bounce off them. You have to do some shooting first and hit them in the flank.
