Stimovsky (Campanian) 50% vs ZygfrydDeLowe (Bruttian) 12%
While our centres engaged in a game-long staring contest (Stimovsky positioned his infantry on a high hill), Bruttian infantry proved to be successful on one of the flanks and drove away opposing Campanian force.
The fight on the opposing flank started to late to have any impact on the outcome of the battle.
Ironclad (Italian Hill Tribes) 52% vs ZygfrydDeLowe (Bruttian) 17%
Ironclad's superior numbers and initial skilful large scale manoeuvring got me worried, but after making contact I managed to cause a chain rout on one of his flanks, which was enough to secure a victory.
Maybe it doesn't matter which loss summary we choose to report as losses except in terms of winner/loser aren't a factor in the tournament rules . However the end of battle rout comparisons clearly gives a better flavour of the action itself. As a prime example - one exceptionally close battle (not from this tournament) which ended 61% to 58% was converted in the Final Losses to 64% to 27%.
All those hard fought battles, when you are desperately trying to inflict more casualties on your enemy, and untill the very last moment the result is still uncertain are better represented by the final turn Victory %;
and the feeling is lost, or somewhat diminished, when browsing the post battle result.
We must be alive with the wonderful Fog 2 to play.
Must admit that when I'm in multiple campaigns I swiftly get confused as to what i'm playing let alone what I'm supposed to be doing. That's why its such a relief when there are regular progress updates as compared to those where one is expected to show (horror!) some initiative.
Sorry for my absence and thanks for your patience! I had a few weeks of being posted abroad that weren't expected and then some minor surgery. I'm waiting on a challenge from Ulysisgrunt and I think that and the Zygfryd/Doyley match will finish the round.
Hello all you lovely people and apologies for my absence. Work has been much more manic than expected (being sent abroad more often than I expected) so I'm getting little time to play, let alone run a tournament. I'm now going to be out of the loop until the beginning of March at the earliest. So, rather than appearing and disappearing, I'm going to regretfully draw a line under this mini-tournament. Thank you all very, very much for taking part and please accept my apologies for not seeing it through to its conclusion. I'm planning on having a travelling games rig later in the year and may try to run something then. See you on a battlefield one day in the future!
