The List of Wars

Post by w_michael »

Here is a great resource that can be used to inspire match ups: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_before_1000

A great way to appreciate the variety of armies in Field of Glory II (Rise of Rome) is the List of Wars. You start with the Pyrrhic War 280 BC - 275 BC. Play one skirmish with the primary armies in each war, and then move on to the next. You will end with the Cantabrian Wars 29 BC - 19 BC.

Thanks for that link. It gives a very different way of deciding which battles and forces to play than I would usually do. In Pike and Shot I gravitated towards trying to master (often unsuccessfully☺) a particular force that suits my play style. I had intended to do this with either the Ptolemaic Egyptians or Pyhrric armies but your suggestion is a good one at least as far as the single player experience is concerned.........for added uncertainty I may flip a coin to decide which side I play in both a skirmish and then a campaign.
Roll on tomorrow !!

I posted a similar list for Pike & Shot, and it was added to the forum as a Stickie. For P&S, I usually play the historical loser on the list. The concept would work with a partner in MP, but there are a lot of battles in that list. If I liked the match up, then I would try a campaign with those two armies.

I am very much looking forward to the official release of FoG2 tomorrow as well. I have two friends who are going to buy, and I have a couple of interrupted beta multi-player challenges that we will restart.

Nice to have some people ready to pitch into multi player with. I am fortunate I have a couple of people via the Pike and Shot PBEM++ system that are as stoked about FOG2 as I am and one is a big fan of the pot luck (historically plausible) match ups so I will need to get up to speed on different tactics!!

Using the new Immortal Fire army lists as a guide then 550 BC - 25 BC becomes the date range for Field of Glory II. Running through the List of Battles,it would now start at Cyrus' Conquest of the Lydian Empire and end with the Cantabrian Wars
