Ashoka the Great, Emperor of Maurya, beloved by Gods and Father of his populace, invites the other rulers to remember that the only enlightment in lifetime comes from the teachings of Bodhisattva Buddha.

In order to spread the knowledge of the doctrine it is my desire to send some wise men to the other realms that can preach the true Dharma to all who are interested in listening the truth.
Stop everybody hunting and eating animals!
Shall the rulers mitigate the punishments and grant amnesty to the prisoners!
Let built hospitals for the sicks and hostels for pilgrims, academies and universities for the youngsters!

I will give my friendship to every sovereign who has a plain heart, is charitable with the poors and open the doors to my envoys.
I will embrace all the suffering peoples.
I will pity the prouds and the ones who rely only in their arrogance.

Ptolemy, Supreme Leader and thoroughly modern despot points out that the above is all well and good but sitting around chewing lentils and strumming guitars with newly released psychopathic ex prisoners would not have got the pyramids built.
The Ptolemaic Kingdom is one where everyone knows their place (and if they can't remember the Army will remind them).
Policies remain unchanged.
Have a nice day.

Now .....off to kill the fattened calf........... :D

Apulians and Romans are fighting at close quarter on the southern plains of Italy.
The Apulians have lured the Romans to advance on their center and are now trying to exploit the defenseless flanks, using also some woods on the right wing as a protectcion.
Some local advantage has been taken but the fight is still ferocious.

The invasion of Bithynia got off to a good start, with the Bithynians finding themselves completely outnumbered and outflanked on their right flank. They responded in typical fashion, by running away!!! After a couple of turns we are still trying to catch them, as they continue to run away some more! What do you expect when you get a Roman general to fight your battles for you? King Nicomedes should get out of the jaccuzzi and go fight the battle himself!

The Bithynians stop running, ready fisticuffs and hope the Pontics have blunt pikes and lances (!).

Update on Ptolemaic pacification efforts....

The battle for Phoenicia continues to rage with Ptolemaic troops having broken the Jewish right flank and stormed the town anchoring it. Unfortunately the hordes of Medium infantry emerging on the Ptolemaic right and enveloping it have caused major problems aided by marauding Jewish Cavalry behind the lines...for now Jewish losses are around 25% and friendly losses 19% but the battle remains in the balance.....

Mauryan envoys sent to the people of Paropamisade in order to preach the peaceful doctrine of the Buddha have been attacked by bumpkin mountain folks, worshippers of false Gods and haters of human makind, that are badly mauling the unfortunate caravan of the wise men.
Ashoka the Great prays night and day for the souls of his envoys hoping that also the obscured minds of the attacker will be enlightened by the revelations of the true doctrine.

Veranius Varialus, commander of the Apulian army, reports that the battle ont the plains near Tarentum has ended with the resounding defeat of the Romans that lost 42% of their men versus 14% of the defending host.
The Roman general Epidius Poplicola fought with valour but is now retreating to his quarters, expecting to be judged by the Senate for his conduct when back in Rome.
The Roman Republic lost 1 stability pt. and 30 talents.

The peaceful caravan of elephants, chariots and wise men bringing gifts and the doctrine of Buddha to the people of Paropamisade treacherously attacked and hacked to pieces by some mountain villains of that place.
May the wisdom of the Dharma one day descend upon their hearts ...

Ptolemy sends his hearty congratulations to the heroic Apulian defenders of their homeland against the brutal expansionist Romans.
Interesting what a good fight the defenders are putting up against the player Empires in this first month....

We finally caught up with the Bithynians and a bitterly fought battle has been the result, with the result hanging by a thread (19% difference after going over 20% during the turn!) . The Bithynian phalanx is in tatters after being smashed by the perfidious Galatian barbarians but elsewhere the Bithynians are in rout and have retreated to a hill in the centre of the battlefield, where they are slowly but inexorably being surrounded and shot up.

Victory to Pontus! The Bithynian superior warbands were stomping all over the place, and all Pontus could do was ineffectually shoot at them, but in the end it wasn't enough to overcome the initial Pontic advantage. The Bithynians played well and had better co-ordinated attacks, I'm still not sure how I started winning, this was a great battle!

This was my first ever FOG victory that I can remember, usually playing Thracians on the table I ran out of time and got a draw, or lost, and I haven't played a human opponent for years. Playing on the computer is easier than on the table as you can work out exactly how far away things are, and how long it will take to get to a place on the battlefield. Also these rules allow a lot of tactical flexibility, they are brilliant! Still think it's stupid that you can't attack even an unsteady heavy infantry unit from any angle with light foot, or shoot at it from the rear.

Here is a picture of the hill so fiercely contested by the Bithynians, with the dead bodies lying all around it.

Hi vakarr.
Compliments for your victory but remember that in order to make the new attack you have firstly to specify if it starts from Paphlagonia or from Bithynia.
