Tournament totally broken???
I destroyed my opponent's entire army in both matches but his score doubled mine. How does that happen?

pm the mod who announced the event with names and dates and both sides mentioned and he will or can explain hopefully how the match ended etc, sorry i can't as i don't know

Thank you for the reply. maybe this is resolved. I am confused because my original opponent disappeared. his name was NoTauPlease. I don't see any record of that match, which is for the best because I think he only took one turn. I will wait and see how the points sort out in the end. thanks again.

You did not took part in the 2nd round of that tournament. maybe because your first pair of games ended with one time-out each for both players.

About scoring: I have the suspicion, that the point penalty for "timed-out games" is not working yet and I am not sure if you automatically get all score points for possession of VPs, if you table your opponent, while he had still control of some VPs.

on this page they are labled round 1 and round 2, so I'm still confused...lol.
game 2 vs reapagan I killed all his units with time to spare and he tripled my score.... I could have kept his last guy alive and went to cap all vp as I had a sentinel and chimera still on the board vs a gretchin but it seems wrong to have to keep an enemy alive, also I couldn't be sure it was his last unit until I killed it and got the victory screen. maybe this is how the scoring is intended to work and I just learned the hard way.
now that I look at the link Fosil provided it seems this is an entirely different tournament, but I only registered for one. after my match with notauplease the next game that came up was round 1 of another tourney? I don't know what happened there, so I am even more confused now...

I suspose this is what test tournaments are for. it seems I was moved from the first tournament to another tournament, maybe since my first match never finished I was not able to complete my second round of tourney 1 and maybe I was entered automatically into second tourney. as for game 2 round 1 of my current tournament my original gripe still stands. I killed all opponents units and I had fast units and turns remaining and he tripled my score. if you can suicide all your units anytime you have a vp advantage, lose the match but dramatically outscore the winner, this seems to be a very serious flaw. I hope this doesn't come across like I am raging. I love this game, this dev team, and Slitherine in general. It cost me nothing but time to enter this tournament and I would truly like to help the tournament system improve.

yeah, it's probably a scoring bug. the same kind of bug I had, when my opponent surrendered in one match of the test tournament. you did not get possession points for all VPs and the win bonus for tabling your opponent.
instead the game ended and the tournament scoring system checked only, who had more victory points under control at the last turn, leading to a "victory" for the player without any remaining units in the match.

Thee same problem! I killed all opponents units, but he took more contol points and as result I got 102 VP against opponent's 195 VP.
I see a good tactics: take all control points and fast die - you get tripple VP then your opponent! Excellent Tournament!!!

that does seem to be what happened and it is a pretty serious flaw in the tournament system. I understand that vp's can give a path to victory even if a player has less units than his opponent, but the person with the advantage in units shouldn't have to keep an opponent's last unit alive while he recaps vp's. I think a good fix would be to not end the match abruptly in "victory" when the last unit is killed, because it is no victory at all if the "winner" gets crushed on points. allow the player with remaining units to recap what points they are able to in the turns remaining. this way it still leaves a path to victory via map control for the player with less units, but doesn't unfairly penalize the player who wins the war of attrition. a player shouldn't have to "keep alive" an enemy unit, which is able to fire on them, in order to recap vp's, and a player shouldn't be able to "win" on points by suiciding all their units when they have a vp advantage.

The best fix would be to just give all VP score points and the win bonus to the player that tabled his opponent.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think a player should be awarded vp's that they don't have enough remaining turns / movement points to capture. That would negate the opportunity for a map control victory to the player with less units, but a player certainly shouldn't be denied the score for capturable victory points because he destroyed his opponent's entire army in the early going. However, I think we both agree that a fix is needed. As of now, a viable strategy is to rush in and suicide all your units whenever you have a vp advantage, thereby losing the match but winning the most tournament points. This can be achieved quite early. If "capturable" vp's could be calculated automatically that would be great, but manually capturing them would be better than nothing . Any fix is better than no fix and I agree that awarding all victory points to the player who tables his opponent would be an improvement over the current system. I was just trying to think about fairness to both players. For example if a player controlling 5 vp to 1 vp loses his last unit on the last attack of the last turn, I'm not sure it would be fair to award all the vp's to the winner when they had no time or movement to recapture even one vp. a suicide rush will only work against somebody, who is not aware of the current system, where you can "lose" the game and keep the points. there are several options for stalling and keeping an opponents units alive. and if you have at least a victory point draw, you can go into overtime to set-up catching all of the remaining points in one single swoop.
trying to calculate what VPs would have been reachable in x turns is not easy too with destroyable cover and special abilites that affect movement (of which the teleport has even a random movement effect).
map control victories are possible with my suggestion. you just need to keep at least one unit alive. if you can't keep something alive for 12 turns, you should imo get no points for possession.
