Javelin/Slingers et al - Too close to shoot?

I shoot! YaaH!
Then in the next combat round and from the same distance "too close to shoot"?

Confused...........

There is no "too close to shoot" rule.

I am guessing that the message you have seen in the tooltip actually says: "Can't shoot: Target in close combat". (or the equivalent in French, German or Spanish)

Troops cannot shoot at a unit that is in close combat with another of your units. This is because in real life troops generally would not do this because of the risk of hitting their own men. (Only Hollywood villains would deliberately do such a thing).
