Unit bases? Like in miniatures?

Post by Temple »

Back in the previous century I used to tool around a bit with miniatures. It's been a couple of decades, but when I'm playing FoG2 I was feeling something was missing and then it hit me... the units aren't mounted on bases. Has anyone else felt like this is something that the game could use? Maybe as a mod?

Or am I just old and weird? (wait, don't answer that last one :D )

Well I'm pretty old so I'm hardly going to pull you up for that. And I'm pretty weird, so likewise.

But bases where proposed back in the day .. but then dropped becasue they'll obscure terrain, look a bit weird when terrain objects (grass, trees etc.) poke through them and not work so well on hill sides without deforming them to fit the slope . . which would require the unit models to stand perpendicular to the slope.

All in all, while miniatures was a starting point and inspiration, we weren't slaves to it and picked the bits that worked and dropped those that don't.

We wouldn't have bases in Tabletop Ancients if they didn't make it easier to move the figures and keep them from falling over.
