Taking "around" in a VERY wide sense - there are a number of 1/72 plastic EAP boxes (by Hat and Zvezda), covering spearmen and bowmen (both with big wicker shields and with crescent shields), light infantry, heavy and light cavalry, scythed chariots, and Greek allies.
The Zvezda figures are very nicely done (although I know nothing about their accuracy) - the main problem is their cavalry box has 1 scythed chariot and 8 cavalry - not a great ratio. Hat have 3 different Persian cavalry boxes (without any chariots in them), and a box just of light infantry. Hat are good workmanlike figures.
1/72 armies do work on the table when fighting metal 28mm armies, but they are an acquired taste.
In the event you are interested www.plasticsoldierreview.com is your starting point to see what EAP figures are available.

Thanks. I do have a few plastic sets - Romans, Carthage, Samnites and Celts.
I actually quite like them as they are less stylized and more lifelike than the metal miniatures. Was wondering if they were frowned upon by the FoG fraternity as this is the first time I have seen them mentioned!
That said the metal ones are attractive and I quite like the idea of gradually building up a Persian horde.
I must say if the 1/72 plastic figures are equivalent to 28mm I don’t know how people manage with 15mm. Must be very hard to paint and see the detail.

I think that the most lifelike figures are the 1/72 plastics. Most of them are about 23mm tall. 28mm are significantly larger, 15mm are smaller but still easy enough to paint.Eques wrote:Thanks. I do have a few plastic sets - Romans, Carthage, Samnites and Celts.

If you want really small you can get 10mm, 6mm and even 2mm figures

Yes, I play this army in this scale.
Wargames Foundry has some.
Vendel Miniatures has many (perhaps my favorite), larger than usual 28mm.
Crusader Miniatures has some under "Rank and File" range, only foot troops.
Essex has some, but few poses.
1st Corps has some. I know very little about them.
Old glory Miniatures (USA) has some, very inexpensive.
Battle Standard (USA) has some, but I don't know if they are still in business.
There may be a few others.
It's a fun army.

I don't think there is a hatred or hobby wide dismissal of 1:72 plastics. Most people (including me) just find them very difficult to paint, and more importantly very difficult to preserve in a painted state without flaking even when sealed.
Later Carthaginians (853 pts)
Medieval Swedish (591 pts)
Later Achm'd Persian (424 pts)

INFANTRY : Despite it's limited range I think the new Crusader figures make the best Persian infantry. Spearmen can have spara or hoplon, and archers are shooting overhead for nice rank rank figures.
CAVALRY: Foundry PER15 make nice Persian horse archers. One can assume they are wearing armor under their tunics so they can be used as armored horse archers. A combination of other Persian cavalry from Foundry can be used for later cavalry.

Hi - just signed in and saw this thread. The figure companies listed are certainly worth a look.
An excellent new manufaturer is "Immortal Miniatures". Limited range at the moment but well worth a look on their web site. Good animation and to-date the Immortals look very good. Will be expanding their range in due course.
Cheers
