Advice for next calendar year...opinions from any and all we

Post by WhiteKnight »

After a successful FOG demo game at the Model Show at Yeovilton RNAS Museum, we have been invited to return there put on a wargame event ( demo/participation games and a range of traders ) combined with two FOG competitions ( 15mm and 25mm ) and a FoW competition as well! For those that don't know the museum, it is on the naval base near Yeovil and houses exhibits from WW1 to the present, has a walk-through aircraft-carrier simulation and a Concorde!

To make this a goer, we would need to pitch it at a time of year when at least in southern England, there were few shows or competitions already taking place.

When do folks think would be the best time of year?

Well in Plymouth - we always aim for the first weekend in February.
Exeter is in March.
I wonder if there may be any value in combining a few competitions in the south-west to make a
SW FoG league?

Sounds good to me - Clevedon, Devizes, Usk, even Exeter & Plymouth at a push might be doable, as long as they don't clash.
Yeovilton should be good for either April or May, or the autumn. Not a fat lot around then.

OK, I will look to April/May...thanks guys. We around Yeovil/Dorset would most certainly be up for a SW area FOG league with say four or five comps in the year, spaced through the year and we would be happy to host one event. We have in the past attended USK and Clevedon and will be at Usk again, but exeter is new to me, never knew there was anything beyond a fantasy scene there! The Plymouth show is within a week or so of Usk so we have always missed that and Devizes seems like the south midlands rather than the south-west, no disrespect intended!

Due to meet with the diector of Yeovilton over the next coupla weeks so watch this space!

Devizes is a fair drive for us in Plymouth but we always enjoy that show. If Devizes is not in the SW, is Usk?
I thought that was a different country!

Keith McGlynn is considering replacing his DBM Shieldwall events with FOG. This year we've just had a Flames of War in April (and HOTT in September) with nothing for November, but in previous years have run 15mm DBM Doubles in Mar/Apr and 25mm in Nov/Dec. To increase numbers generally, so that it is more sociable, we may run a FOW at the same time subject to interest levels.

That said, every one seems to ne looking at April as a date so clashes are likely.
