Spartan strategies/mods

Post by Darthvegeta800 »

Though i'm still (re)playing Europa Universalis III i plan to get into Spartan too which i bought cheaply locally quite a while ago but never fully got into.
I was wondering if there were:
1) Any threads with some strategies/tips on the forum
2) Are there any mods i should install to add more realism/historical fluff. EUIII has plenty of those.
3) Since Spartan and Gates of Troy (didn't get that) did Slitherine publish any other grand strategy games focussing on Empire building?
How good are Gates of Troy and Legion: Gold? What are the +'s and -'s of each?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

GoT is great, it adds a zoom out feature which is very handy, and you can play all the Spartan scenarios through the GoT engine with that feature added. The two games actually link themselves automagically. You install GoT, start up the game, and you will see a FULL scenario list, with all the scenarios from both games.

GoT also adds a number of great new scenarios. I can't list them because I've been playing both games for so long (coming up on 3 years now) that I no longer have a clear mental picture of which scenarios came with which game :)

But yes, if you liked Spartan, GoT is very much worth the money.

There is a video bug with the Achaian Nobles, patch fix in the downloads area (waaaay back, like 3rd or 4th page), and there is one important caveat.

If your ethnic type is Ionian Greek or Aeolian Greek, the game will allow you to build the Elite Heavy Infantry Barracks, but you will derive no benefits therefrom. Just don't build it!

Other than those two items, both games are bug-free, to the best of my knowledge and belief.

Oh, and be aware that the two lowest Difficulty settings are for little kids and grandmothers.

While it's still a work in progress, I am creating a thread on Modding Spartan and GoT, which contains some information on the Difficulty settings and how to mod them in "Part Two - Tweaks.txt".
