Creating Imagi-Nation armies

Post by oldbear1962 »

Probably this has already been addressed but my search efforts have been in vain. I was wondering whether it will be possible to mod entirely new armies, from the name of the country down. Santa will be bringing me the game but if such is possible I may well spend the time approaching the festivities in updating my Hyboria campaign.

Yes, it is. If you need help with it, PM me.

Thanks for the superbly fast reply, Richard. With my waning eyesight I was losing the will to live on ever finishing the armies I've been fiddling with for over 30 years. This makes my day. If I hit rough water I'll be sure to take you up on your very kind offer. :D

Regards,

Ian

In a nutshell, to create a Hyborian "Custom Battles" module you would:

1) Create a new "campaign" in the Editor. Don't make it a copy of anything. Say you call it Hyboria, it will be saved as /Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2/CAMPAIGNS/Hyboria.
2) Copy ArmyList.txt from /Core/ArmyList.txt in the main build to /Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2/CAMPAIGNS/Hyboria

That will give you a custom battles module to work on - you can call it up in game by selecting Custom Battle from the main Battles menu and then click on the "Select another module" button next to the Rise of Rome title in the Custom Battles setup screen. Your Hyborian module should appear in the list.

You can then mod the army-list to your hearts content. You will need to add your new army list names, unit names etc. to the text1.txt file in the custom folder.

You can also copy the Squads.csv file from /Data in the main build to /Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2/CAMPAIGNS/Hyboria/Squads.csv and add your own new variant units.

Anyway, as I say, if you have queries PM me.

Bring on the Bossonian archers!

Good luck with you project, I too have been fiddling with different games for a Hyborian "era" as well. To date Fog1 was the best bet with all the medieval graphics available but hopefully we'll see chivalric armies with this engine soon enough.

Shouldn't you be doing Nehwon? Good luck with modding Ghouls.

Thanks, Mouser. I was using the medieval elements of FoG 1 as well for a while, then the Commands & Colors board game but I'd really been hoping for an improved FoG and here it is! Truth is I'm probably going to base most of my ideas around medieval again but in the meantime I get to do a lot of planning and get the game where I want it. Thanks to Richard it looks like the path has been laid to make my life relatively easy.
