Great Terrain

Post by Ironclad »

Amongst the many impressive features of FOG 2 are the great terrain effects. Here is a North European Hilly battlefield providing the arena for Ligurians fighting Gauls.

I agree in the main though the issue of an impassable river running the length of the map making 25% of the map redundant will need to be sorted out...

I like how the new RNG map generator adds obstacles which give directional combat advantage. Never was the case in open battles before this game.

As a pike fanatic, my favorite battlefield is Middle Eastern Agricultural!
What is this 'terrain' you speak of? I fight on an endless two dimensional plain!

That isn't a bug. The only reason it is there at all is for that exact purpose - because armies often did use rivers to protect one flank.

Oh...okay.I stand corrected. I do feel a bit sorry for one of my current opponents who has placed about 15% of his force on the wrong side of an impassable river ☺

Almost as bad is to put your chariots on a hill with difficult terrain slopes.

Might be a case in the odd game for a couple of units of archers there to shoot from safety - 15% of your army could be a mistake though

If the terrain is such that you can force the enemy to fight you near the river bank, having a whole bunch of archers on the opposite bank would be devastating.

Indeed...though in the game I am referring to the units are largely superior Lancers :-)
