Doh! Yes, I for one have read one of the novels, but am more familiar with the tv series. I liked it, but was unable to watch it regularly for reasons of timing. I take it that Sharpe was in the 95th.donkeyoti wrote:No one read the Sharpe novels? No one watched Sean Bean play Richard Sharpe? Oh well never mind.
Good question on your part, you just had a dull audience

It struck me as an interesting series. How do you feel it fared in terms of historical accuracy?donkeyoti wrote:Yes Happycat, Sharpe was originally in the 95th Rifles until joining the South Essex (fictional) but always wore the green uniform of the Rifles. Not a dull audience just deeply involved in playing CNAW.

Historical accuracy? Well the series was fictional events based around actual events. The uniforms and weapons were spot on. But with regards to the characters I am not sure how accurate they were. Sometimes a "modern" tilt came across with regard to some female characters but in the main I would say accurate for ninety percent of the time. The worst offender was Sharpe's Waterloo. The book was fine and obviously the tv show could not produce to the scale of Waterloo but decided to concentrate on one section of the battlefield. So far so good but the ended up combining the defence of Hougoumont and la Haye Sainte. As a mark out of ten I would give the series 8.5.
