Romans with plumes

Why do the Marian legionaries all have plumed helmets? This seems like an odd historical oversight. I am just wondering as to the logic of the choice.

It is not an oversight. Legionaries of this period did have helmet crests.

Yeah I was thinking of imperial romans for some reason, well now I feel dumb :)
