Unit Flags

Post by Paul59 »

I've noticed a few comments about the unit flags and if it would be possible to switch them off in a future update. A thought occurs to me that it might be a good idea to be able to reduce the size of them, they seem a little bit over scale at the moment, and would look less obtrusive if a little smaller. Of course, this would have to be an option, as many players like to see as much unit info as clearly as possible.

They are critical in my view. I'm constantly checking them out to identify weakening units on both sides- enemy showing yellow or even better red are usually the first ones I target in melee or shooting. Tattered status indicating increasing casualties is a less significant visual check for me except when a banner is really shortened. Worth bearing in mind that this can reduces banner size considerably for units as a battle progresses.

I don't think any one wants to see them removed from the game. Certainly not me. But some people have said that they find them visually obtrusive, and would like the option to turn them off. I am just suggesting that an alternative could be to reduce the size, so that the information is still there if your eyesight is good enough, but they do not dominate the battlefield like they do now. Again, this would be an option that you could turn on or off in "Settings". I am sure there are even some players that would like them bigger, and that too could be an option.

Not only do the unit flags provide important information for the player, they pinpoint the unit as well. With no visible gaps between units, unlike Pike and Shot, it is easier to count flags than the units themselves when they blend into a homogeneous battle line.

Agreed, but's what wrong with an option to make them smaller for those that want it?
