Pitch

Post by HobbesACW »

A reminder that the viewpoint can be changed to a lower angle that some (including me) prefer:

Go to the 'Data' folder (in the game's main folder). Make a backup copy of MAPVIEW.TXT! After that, open this file. Set pitch to 30 rather than 45.

Cheers,
Chris

MAPVIEW.TXT

PITCH 25 (Shift+up and down arrow keys. 25 is good!)
PITCHLIMIT 15 // 25 (Confused!!)
ZOOM 600 (zoom speed in %?)
ZOOMLIMIT 1200 // 500 (don't know)
ZOOMINLIMIT 200 // 50 (don't know)
ROTATE 100 (Rotate speed?)
FOV 50 (Field of view in degrees)

Is this correct and can someone fill in the gaps?

Pitchlimit is the amount you can tweak the pitch by using SHIFT+UP/DOWN

Thanks for that Pip but I'm still confused (old age you know). is it like a tolerance band or the amount of degrees +/- from a nominal value?

Anything after a // is ignored and is often used to store test or original values during development.

I'm a bit hazy on this and can't suggest values but

PITCH - starting pitch? 90 is looking straight down.
PITCHLIMIT - a number of degrees you can rotate either side of the original starting pitch. Higher the number the great ther range you can move.
ZOOM - starting zoom level
ZOOMLIMIT - the value either side of the starting that you can zoom. works ame as pitch limit. (Confused .. seems redundant)
ZOOMINLIMIT - kind of speaks for itself. Smaller the number the closer you can zoom in . Speaking from the point of view of the artist .. I'd stick to the default.
FOV - Higher values give you a fish eye effect and can make you sick. Especially after strong coffee. 30-50 is ok Lower values can maybe, possibly, sometimes .. improve performance . . at least thats how it seems on my machine.

I'll have to update my build. I don't have ROTATE .. but I assume its also the starting angle?

BTW zooming in closer than originally allowed goes beyond the tollerance level of the graphics. Don't expect them to look better the closer you get. It doesn't work that way.

Except the green/blue Indians. They look awesome from any distance. :D

MAPVIEW.TXT

PITCH 50 (Shift+up and down arrow keys. 50 is good!)
PITCHLIMIT 35 // 200 (Right, the first figure is the amount of degrees from the pitch. eg 50 degrees +35 degrees = 85 degrees and 50 degrees - 35 degrees = 25 degrees ) (Don't know what the second figure does, maybe speed???)
ZOOM 400 (zoom speed in %?)
ZOOMLIMIT 1500 // 200 (don't know)
ZOOMINLIMIT 100 // 50 (don't know)
ROTATE 100 (Speed in %?)
FOV 60 (Field of view.Figure is degrees)
