Very erratic mouse movement
Very erratic mouse movement
The lag on the game causes very erratic mouse movement and map scrolling is crazy fast. What settings would help? I didn't have this issue with Pike and Shot

Re: Very erratic mouse movement
Pike and shot makes much lower demands on the graphic hardware. If your machine is a bit underpowered, particularly if it has an integrated Intel graphics card, you may need to lower the shadows settings and turn off anti-aliasing if it is on. (In the Settings menu). Also turn off any other programs you may have running.wxman40 wrote:The lag on the game causes very erratic mouse movement and map scrolling is crazy fast. You can also set the scroll speed in the Settings menu.

Re: Very erratic mouse movement
Mouse lag, yes I had this issue too yesterday when I first ran the game. Try forcing your VSync OFF in your video card drivers for this game. Totally solved the problem for me.
I am running max AA as well and mouse lag gone.
Lots of games have that issue and VSync is usually a good place to start.
Hope that helps.

Ah thanks, that is very useful to know. Great tip!Stardog765 wrote:Mouse lag, yes I had this issue too yesterday when I first ran the game. Try forcing your VSync OFF in your video card drivers for this game. Totally solved the problem for me.

Glad to help!
Re: Very erratic mouse movement
Please note that on the ATI cards Vsynch it's called Vertical Refresh.
Re: Very erratic mouse movement
I have an ATI Radeon 4200 graphics card but I don't see anywhere I can manipulate VSync from the toolbar. I did make sure anti-aliasing was off and turned shadows off and that did helped. Also slowed down the scroll speed

In truth I am staggered that the game runs at all on that cardwxman40 wrote:I have an ATI Radeon 4200 graphics card but I don't see anywhere I can manipulate VSync from the toolbar. I did make sure anti-aliasing was off and turned shadows off and that did helped. Also slowed down the scroll speed

Re: Very erratic mouse movement
I have problems in game re speed and mouse control with normal shadows and x8 antialias. But the mouse is slow and irratic in the menu screens making them almost unusable.

Re: Very erratic mouse movement
If you are having issues on (e.g.) the main menu, then your driver is likely buffering too many frames ahead. Check your video card control panel for an option to reduce the 'render ahead' value or similar.
The disabling-VSync trick may also work. Another alternative is to run in windowed mode at your screen resolution, which will look like fullscreen, but works around these kinds of issues.

Re: Very erratic mouse movement
Although my laptop has a good Nvidia card it is a pain to plug and unplug the monitor I use when playing from the HDMI port so I instead usually use a software driver running the graphics through a USB3 docking station. Your suggestion of running the game in windowed mode worked and I am now running the game at 1080p with normal shadows and 4x antialiasing with large battles in shared memory with no problems.

I am glad to hear it. And thanks for the feedback on the Windowed Mode tip.julianbarker wrote:Although my laptop has a good Nvidea card it is a pain to plug and unplug the monitor I use when playing from the HDMI port so I instead usually use a software driver running the graphics through a USB3 docking station. Re: Very erratic mouse movement
I have no problem using my laptop for something like Medieval Total War 2 but for this game the menu screens are fine but the mouse is all over the place once I start it. My laptop does have integrated graphics but this is the first game I've installed on it that this has been a problem. I tried lowering the scroll speed but that was pretty much the only option I could see that I could try. By the way, my first tutorial game (I gave up on the laptop and put it on my desktop) showed how stupid the "lights can't attack heavies under any circumstances" (aka "let's nerf the Thracians") rule is - Roman light foot just sat there and couldn't interfere when they were behind my British heavy foot as they attacked the Roman general from the flank. Should at least be able to shoot into the rear of enemy troops even if they are in melee. I wonder if anybody (some rebel from the Roman provinces no doubt) has modded it yet to allow the old rules to come back ie lights can only attack lights - or heavier troops if they are disordered or charged in the rear
Edit OK I set the scroll speed to 0.1 and found a video setting for the graphics that said to optimise 3d performance, and that seems to have mostly fixed it - but I still think I prefer M2TW animations, which run much more smoothly

Reducing the shadow quality to low will almost certainly improve performance.vakarr wrote:I have no problem using my laptop for something like Medieval Total War 2 but for this game the menu screens are fine but the mouse is all over the place once I start it. Re: Very erratic mouse movement
I also have poor mouse performance in game, despite trying some of the suggestions mentioned in this thread. To be fair, my laptop is not exactly a powerhouse. Are there any settings hidden away in a txt doc that I can tweak to increase performance?

Re: Very erratic mouse movement
What exactly is your spec? If you are already running at the lowest shadow quality (or, urgh, off) then there isn't much more that can be done and keep the game looking decent.lehesu wrote:I also have poor mouse performance in game, despite trying some of the suggestions mentioned in this thread. Have you tried running in Windowed mode (at your full monitor resolution) as this can sometimes help solve some driver lag issues.

Re: Very erratic mouse movement
I'm not aiming for a decent looking game. Just one that plays smoothly. I'm running an Asus t200 netbook:
Atom Z3795 Dual-core @ 1.6Ghz
4 Gb RAM
Windows 8 x64
Integrated Intel HD Graphics Card (1800 MB, 64 MB dedicated)
To be clear, I have no expectation that this computer should run the game well, though it had no problem with the earlier two P&S engine games. Just wondering if there is anything else I can do to squeeze performance other than running at 800x600 at lowest settings.

Don't play with the battery but rather plug it to the power supply.

Try adding
DEBUGSLIM 1
to your USER.TXT file (in My Documents/My Games/FieldOfGlory2). It will probably give you a speedup, but may God have mercy on your soul...
And don't let the artists know I told you.
