Well up to my expectations

Post by Hoplite1963 »

Downloaded the game and had a look around and its well up to my expectations. While we could always do with more troop models Late Spartan Pikemen, Iberian Caetratus, Celtiverian Scutarius and Tarantine light cavalry etc, from looking at the dds files I don’t think that those that have worked on mods for the T...W... games would have any trouble adding extra troop types. Perhaps for the benefit of those of us who have not had this experience we could have some documentation at some point on how to make new models and units skins etc

Have the feeling that this is the start of something really big for turn based PC gaming both because of what the series will make possible and also because it could attract the sort of larger moding community previously working mostly on RTS strategy type games.

Thanks very much
Ian

Likewise
Fighting the 2nd tutorial and even now presenting a reasonable challenge.

Lovely presentation too.

Definite winner.

I asked about this and was shot down, apparently the devs don't believe in Cleomenes' reforms.

Still going to buy this amazing game

Of course we believe in them. They are in the Greek army list of that period. We just don't believe that Spartan pikemen were better than Macedonian pikemen, nor that Spartans of that late date were sufficiently better than other Greeks to warrant a separate list. (Spartans were not the only Greeks to adopt the pike phalanx, though they were the first. The Achaian league reorganised their citizen infantry as pikemen in 208 BC).

Not sufficiently better than other Greeks? Cleomenes III dominated everyone in the Peloponnesos, he passed military reforms and was the first in the area to adopt the pike, he was the bees knees.

I understand that you are anti-Spartan, but Cleomenes III definitely deserves his own army list. I would also appreciate it if you could rename the game "Glory of Sparta" and make all Spartan units invincible. Thank you for your time.

Also, for anyone wondering, FOG II is an awesome game. I played a couple of battles and am having a blast.

I only have the following few wishes:

Allow the player to zoom in closer
Give a gamma option
Make the combat log more like the original

anyway, please excuse me while I go back and play some more. Two thumbs up.

Christmas has come early this year. This game is simply FANTASTIC, I LOVE it. More DLC's welcome anytime ( hint). :)

I have never really been into ancients but having thoroughly enjoyed Pike and Shot I thought I would give FOG2 a go. I have completed the first two scenarious and am totally hooked. What a wonderful game! Many thanks to all involved.

Woohoo, was finally able to purchase, download and install the game. Played two tutorials, so far everything looks great. Looking forward to multi-player and hopefully some kind of campaigns.

Yes, well done on FoG II. I've not played Ancients since the 80s but have had my eye on FoG for some time. So far this seems one of the most competent table-top computer wargames I've seen. The AI is respectable too which is a bonus since I don't always have time to play against others. I can see this having a long life, hopefully plenty of DLC to come.

Everyone involved in making this game should take a bow.
