Buy from here or the shop

Post by tomus »

They have Legion Arena in the shops and seeing as I haven't bought a new game in ages I was going to pick it up. However does ordering from this site or buying it in Game make any difference to Slitherine. It seems an obvious question but if its no difference then I will buy it retail...if not then I will order from here.

Also objectively is Chariots of War worth buying? I love ancient Egypt but has it been superseded by Troy?

Store vs Online & CoW

Slitherine gets a small commission on games sold through retail, they apparently get a major share of the direct sales, at least for their previous games and publishers.

Chariots of War is a little bit older than Spartan/Gates of Troy, and the graphics are slightly less flashy, but basic gameplay is excellent. The combat system is very similar to the later pair, although the relative strengths and weaknesses of the different units are not, especially for missle troops. A few of the game mechanics, such as the city size limit, are absent, diplomacy is almost non-existent, and the resources are not identical but function in a similar manner. Army size is more limited as well, making larger units much more important. It is considerably more advanced than the original "Legion" game, and I actually prefer it in some ways to the later games. In short, if you liked Spartan and GoT, it's definitely worth getting. If you're looking for another "Arena", it isn't.
