PBEM Problem
A friend of mine and myself have bought the CNAW to play PBEM between us. Nevertheless, when we sent the fisrt turn to the another, the following message appears: "Exception, the file could not be loaded". I can see the file (so I have saved it in the correct place), but I cannot open it. We have tried it several times and changing the order (sometimes I start the game and send the file and sometimes my friend send me the initial turn).
Has anyone had the same problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks

Re: PBEM Problem
The message would indicate that you are on different versions of the game, which is of course impossible since it has not been patched yet. This message will also appear if you try to load the game in the wrong play-mode (for example, if you receive a file from your friend that was saved as a PBEM, and try to load it as a solo game, the message will appear).luisito1234 wrote:A friend of mine and myself have bought the CNAW to play PBEM between us. A PBEM game will include "pbem" in the file name, and must only be loaded using the "load multiplayer" button, and then selecting "PBEM" in the sub-menu.
That's all I know, so if this doesn't cover your problem, then hopefully the guru of programming (Johan) will jump in here

That's great. I for one would be interested in knowing what the problem is, so I hope that you or Johan post the information to the forum once this is resolvedluisito1234 wrote:Thanks. I have asked for Johan´s help since the file thay I try to load contains the PBEM words and has been save as PBEM.

Under investigation. Do you both have the Slitherine version, or anyone of you bought from Matrix? It should not matter, but to be sure can you try playing Slitherine vs Slitherine or Matrix vs Matrix and see if it does any difference compared to mixing the two?
HappyCat here for example has the Slitherine version, can you try sending some of the players a PBEM save and see if they can open yours?
Please report to me if this makes any difference, it should not and the problem shoud just be for one particular machine but you never know.

Just to update everyone; Luisito sent me the saved game from his Matrix version and I was able to open it without any problem on my Slitherine version. I have also sent him a new pbem file from a game I started on my platform, to see if he can open it on the Matrix version.
If I understand the original problem, it was that Luisito's save from his Matrix game would not open on his friend's Slitherine? If that is indeed the case, then there is some problem unique and specific to his friend's computer perhaps.

PBEM
There has been a missunderstanding !! The PBEM file that I sent you was a PBEM created from a slitherine version (sent by my friend and therefore I am not able to load it from my matrixgames version). I think you has been able to load it because you (as my friend) have both the slitherine version.
I will send you now a matrixgames PBEM created file and we´ll see what happens. Please let us know if you (with your slitherine version) are able to open it.
Thanks for your help!

Re: PBEM
Well, this would appear to confirm that there is a problem that is not just specific to one machine. I also cannot load the saved file generated by the Matrix version of CNAW. I suppose that in the interest of following good scientific practices, we should try to get someone else who has a Matrix version to test this out. But the Slitherine wizzo's are probably all over this already.luisito1234 wrote:There has been a missunderstanding !! Hopefully Johan and team get to the bottom of the mystery, so that you and your friend can play by email.

So far it seems the common factor is that the PBEM saves were either loaded by or created by luisitos machine. Would like to hear more test results.
