Post by IainMcNeil »

Just in case you didn't notice the news page :)

9th October (London) - Award winning videogame publisher Slitherine revealed its 2009 line up and its expanded self-publishing capability at a partner’s conference this week.

The conference included presentations by Slitherine’s major licensors and partners for the development of videogames in the history genre: A&E Television Networks, with the HISTORYTMand MILITARY HISTORYTM brands, Scholastic with Horrible Histories and development partner BBC .

Under the HISTORY™ brand, Slitherine will be publishing HISTORY™ Great Battles of the Middle Ages, the sequel to chart hit, The History Channel® Great Battles of Rome, HISTORY™ Great Battles of the Middle Ages will release next spring on next generation platforms and another release, HISTORY™ Great Empires Pharaohs will launch on handheld devices this autumn.

Under the MILITARY HISTORY™ brand two titles will be released in the Commander series for handhelds: MILITARY HISTORY™ Commander Europe at War in February and MILITARY HISTORY™ Napoleon Europe at War to follow later in the year.

The Horrible Histories™ license will see a first product released in May, targeting for the first time a younger and more casual audience. Horrible Histories™ The Ruthless Romans will be releasing for consoles and PC alongside a new live-action TV series on BBC television.

The first license agreement between Slitherine and the BBC, for the Battlefield Academy game, will be releasing for handheld platforms towards the end of next year. This ambitious project will see an innovative gameplay system merged with highly researched historical content to attract a wide and diverse audience.

“We’ve been working on this project for well over a year now and our plan has always been to put together a line-up based on our core values with the intention of creating attractive, fun-to-play games based on historical content,” said JD McNeil, Business Development Director of Slitherine. “We are proud of what we have achieved so far, and this is only our first steps into the publishing arena. We are confident that with these quality products we can satisfy our players and find our space in this highly competitive arena. What we are certain of is that we have found an area of the market where we know we have the right skills to compete.”

Slitherine will be disclosing more information on each of these titles over the coming months, including a major presentation by Marketing Director Marco Minoli at the Handheld Learning Conference in London, on the 13th of October, where Slitherine are major Sponsors. Further information will be made available at GC Lyon, starting on the November 5th.

Did I just read that right?

Commander Europe at War for hand held?

Hand held as in Nintendo DS and or PSP?

I own a DS, but dang I'd buy a PSP in a heart beat to play CEAW on it. I only bought the DS for a single wargame title initially as well.

I sooooo want to be unable to continue to say that wargame makers lack the interest in making REAL wargames for the hand held market. We're not all teens out here :) Some of us don't consider the Final Fantasy type genre the pinnacle of hand held games (even if I don't mind the games themselves).

I'll be keeping a definite eye on this one, as as far as I am concerned, it's the ONLY good news I have heard in months, and promises to be the only good news I will hear all winter.
