Actually, there were just some minor issues with that tank, issues that would be found out and fixed if tank was properly tested for few months.. but Hitler forced Panther's deployment for Kursk offensive, as he was convinced it would be a "wonder weapon" that will decide the outcome.. He was actually right to some degree.. premature deployment of Panthers gave STAVKA opportunity to get few Panthers and assess the tank, and develop countermeasures to overcome it. T-34/85, IS-2, 100mm D-10 gun... all these were deployed a lot sooner because Hitler shown his cards too soon...

Favourite Tank ?

Well that's easy, it must not be the best overall, the most expensive, the hardest hitting, the fastest, whatever ...

there is no question it must be the one with the most female sexappeal, the charme of a Lego Brick and some old fashioned slow moving speed but brave ability to take a beating if necessary

there it is the one and only Matilda II how can anyone not like it

Image

(tongue in cheek)
it even has its own sentimental song

for me that's not even a discussion

Love ya Matilda No one else is even close to you

Ok so I have become a huge huge fan of Flamm's yes you have to keep them away from the enemies tanks as they are vulnerable to their attacks, but I thought they would be so awesome in Stalingrad. They can be, but I was disappointed with how they would take nicks from the SMG as SMG's would fire back on Manstein and it would start mitigating the Flamm's effectiveness.

I mean I would try and diminish the SMG's strength by using multiple artillery, but the SMG's still would be able to fire first even with only 2 or 3 un suppressed strength and nick my Flamm's which get's extremely expensive, where my Gebirsjaeger would be able to fire first almost every single time. I know it has something to do with initiative, but can anyone explain exactly why and how to mitigate this as I would like to try to use my Flamm's in the Stalingrad Docks, but do not want to take as much damage as I did in Storming Stalingrad, if possible.

Thoughts?

The Flamm is a tank, it's initiative is limited in cities to 1.

With the range of it's main weapon It should be infantry.
Mod anyone? Multipurpose between infantry and tank with same symbol?
Nico could fold in his equip mod, if you ask him nicely.

Note: A glance at the sidebar displays unit type, adding a second image for multipurpose is for computer geeks, not for those who use computers as an appliance.

New thought: Adding close trait to Flamm in equip file may be easier fix

Beat me to it.

It seems a good fix as an initiative increase would give it an edge in other terrain.

Aesthetically I like tanks with clean, sharp lines:

M4A3 Sherman, Panther, M1 Abrams

I ended up taking only Heinz Rondorf into Stalingrad Docks as the only Flamm. It is going very well, but very slowly and cautiously as this map is very, very tricky, but I am finding it more doable than Storming Stalingrad on Manstein, at least so far.

I think the best "Jack of all trades" tank is the british Churchill Crocodile. Its not only a flame throwing tank but due to its heavy armor is quite able to survive encounters with the German tanks 1944/1945 and even packs "some" Punch against other tanks.

The most dominant tank in its period are IMO the various KVs in Soviet Corps from 1939-1943. Basically, the Germans have nothing against the KVs except Bombers until Tiger I/the more heavy AT guns like the StuG III G come up.

The two Tigers are the best heavy tanks IMO. Tiger I beats its opponents between 1943-1944 and Tiger II from 1944-1945. The closest to them is the Pershing but has lower defense even than Tiger I. IS II would be also very close if the ammo count would not be so low.

Tiger I is my favourite, both in game and historically. It was a piece of elegant design, ahead of its time.

Although technically not tanks, to me the visually most stunning are Sd.Kfz.232 6-rad and 8-rad with their hexagonal geometric design. Forget jeeps - these just look badass :)

I know this will probably be Tiger for most people, but I have a strange reason for picking my favorite tanks.

It would be easy to pick some of the later tanks for any army, but it is the early lighter tanks that hold a greater fascination for me.

PZ 1a and 1b would be easy and it was a great place to start, but i am mostly fascinated by the PZ2 variants because they continued to modify these tanks and added stuff on top of the framework of this 1st upgrade from the Pz1 and it is these varied and creative ways that the Germans took an outmoded tank and made them deadly and relevent.

Please provide your thoughts on this topic.
The reality with the PzI is fascinating. Even the Pz Ib was a great improvement of the a version despite only minor improvement. However, most amazing is the fact that the panzers even at time of Barbarossa had huge amounts of them. Actually, think about that the Wehrmacht almost made it to Moscow with main gun of 37 mm on the Pz 3 as the first PzIV was a mere howitzer gun with overrated 75 mm. The tactical doctrine and the incredibly horrible support system for the Soviet panders was main reason could keep, advancing.

I play with PzI's and the 38 even up to Barbarossa and mostly keep them around for a while. Pz II was a great improvement, but even that only had 20 mm cannon. And all the captured 76 MM artillery after Barbarossa became the first serious tank destroyers and were absolutely deadly even throughout the war. Yes, German engineering was amazing, but even more amazing was the huge difference in undergunning even up to Kursk.

Ok opening up this fun old thread real quick today to just say I am still loving the Flamm's

They have proven there usefulness into 44 in the West as my Albert Kerscher and Heinz Rondorf are still enjoying lighting things up in those scenarios. In fact they made Villers-Bocage scenario a breeze as I suppressed with my artillery and then lit up the entirely suppressed unit with my 13 str Flamm...so very very satisfying.

So still my favorite tank, love lighting up those soft targets.

Cool animation + 140% RoF does make for a unit that's easy to make friends with.

The SS certainly didn't like them in France 1940 when a handful of Matildas went through them like butter..:)

At Arras they came up against the SS Division Totenkopf which had not been in action before and which showed signs of panic"

I still remember the Arras Scenario in the Grand Campaign on Manstein, painfully remember. OUCH!

Yes good choices..:)
The flamethrowing Croc toasts infantry real good and it also has a 75mm gun to take on enemy armour. Also it has bunker-killing and trench-ignoring special abilities and a sensational ground defence rating.
The Sherman Jumbo (M4A3E2) is also a tough cookie, having twice the ground defence rating of ordinary Shermans.
The Tiger is sensational, I once spent to the hilt purchasing loads of them in one scenario and went through the enemy like butter.
The T-34/85 won the war for the Russians, they built about 30,000 so if it was good enough for them it's good enough for us..:)
