Is adding a Strategic HQ unit to CEAW a good idea or not?

Strategic HQ units

Post by GaryChildress »

First off...thanks for a great game Slitherine and Matrix!

I thought I would make my first post on these forums a poll, just for fun.

I have a suggestion for a future patch if anyone else likes the idea and that is to add a strategic HQ unit or something to that effect in the game. Basically an HQ unit would give combat bonuses to all friendly units within a certain radius of the unit, PLUS, most importantly, the Strategic HQ unit would act as a railroad hub for placing units which have been transported by train. There are times in the game when it seems like there are no good cities near enough for train transport. This would rectify the problem. Of course the unit should probably be very expensive so that a player doesn't purchase too many of them.

Just a thought.

Thanks.

Have you tried leaders - they do a part of what you're looking for already?

I like the leader component to the game, however, I thought leaders just gave a bonus to the unit they are attached to. Do they give one to neighboring units as well? I was thinking something along the lines of being able to attach a leader to a command HQ also. Depending upon the leader attached to the HQ you would get certain bonuses for units in the area.

Leaders provide both a general leadership bonus to neabry units within 8 hexes as well as combat bonus for the unit it is attached to.

A leader with leadership 5 means 5*2=10% higher max.effectiveness

I have to say, the more I play this game, the more I think the strategic HQs I proposed above are superfluous and not needed for the game. The only thing I really like about the idea, however, is the ability to act as railroad hubs. That would be extremely useful. But, then again, perhaps it would simply skew the game. Sometimes relative simplicity is beauty. :D
