Spoilers New Georgia Scenario

Post by NCOW »

I had to play this several times to crack it. It can be completed in something like 25 turns of the 55 allowed if managed correctly.

1) Aircraft should be 3 fighters and 1 bomber. You must control the skies. In particular attacks on your supply ships can cripple your offensive. Pursue and destroy all aircraft.

2) 2 destroyers. No need for support craft.

3) Take the airfield and then the port town on the east side of the board. Do not advance far to the north just clean up. Keep a jeep in the area (or mine it).

4) Immediately begin transporting your units in force to Rendova island. Remember the destroyers and PT boat can pick up/put to sea any units in a shore hex adjacent to the ships.

5) Rendova should be attacked above the objective town on the coast. Planes and destroyers can assist, it is slow going moving down the island to get to the objective.

6) Once Rendova is taken immediately begin to move and assault the beaches on the Western side of the peninsula. Take out the big fortress as well. Skirt
around the minefield and move up the coast.

7) Big tip: The objective airfield (Munda) may be left unoccupied by the Japanese forces. You can use a recon plane to confirm this. If it is empty, be ready to drop a paratroop on it.
Once the objective is taken the goal is considered achieved even if you subsequently lose it. So the next turn you may just take the paratroop out to save it. This is the big tip.

Open as broad a front as possible once ashore and push forward. It is nice to get the airfield for your planes but remember even if you do not occupy it you have achieved the
objective via para drop as above.

9) You need only take the final objective to win now.

I played on the II level and gave myself lots of money but I think all these tactics will work on any skill level (unless the airfield is occupied).

I think the reason for the unoccupied airfield is so the planes can move in and out the hangar. If the hex is occupied by infantry/armor the airfield can not be used, so paras can exploit that.

Another tip: Don't return your aircraft all the way back to the airfield on the Eastern side. Instead, exit via the hexes on the bottom of the map. The next turn you can build this unit back to
maximum strength AND return it to the board immediately. That saves a huge amount of time compared to using the airfield.
