Classical Greek Internal Ally

Post by peterrjohnston »

It says:

"An allied general's contingent must conform to the Classical Greek allies list..."

Does that mean, say, an Athenian ally-general (under a Spartan C-n-C) can only include
troops from the allies' list? Or can you conform to the allies list AND take troops from the
optional list?

Rgds,
Peter
PS Look at the Persian War's starter army to see what I'm getting at...

Just from the Allies list.

If the Greek one you mention has troops not from the allies list then the Starter army is wrong - and to pass the buck I'll point out Hammy checks thoese 8)

That's what I thought too.

But as I said, the starter army has a BG of Athenian archers listed after the Athenian ally-general.

(As one competitor has pointed out to the list checker... :))

The starter armies are not in fact obliged to conform to the main lists, which only apply to customised lists. Several don't. In most cases this is due to the main list changing after the starter lists were written. In others it is for flavour purposes within the constraints of 600 points.

True, but it is a little sad that one cannot construct a legal 800 point army that is a convincing representation of the Greek army that fought at Plataea, for which an Athenian ally containing archers would seem to be essential.

Best wishes,
Matthew
