reinstalling the game...again

Post by shadowx »

Hi, as the title says Im having to reinstall the game and all the dlc's and patches again. Ive done it many times for various reasons, this time is because of an issue I had before where every hex that had a road or path in it became corrupt or something. the hexes turned white. I reported it and sent in a pic via email to the dev support team and got a confirmation that it was received, the last time but had to reinstall the game to correct it. I think I know what happened then. This time when I logged in to start another camp the same thing had happened again. I believe its my advast recognizing a file as being a decompression bomb during its scans. Last time i didnt know what that was so I deleted it and when I logged back in to the game to continue my camp thats when I noticed the hexes. This time advast must have deleted it on its own because i didnt tell it to delete it. Anyway after running my scans earlier this week I logged in yesterday to start another camp, Blitzkrieg, and noticed the same thing with the hexes. I uninstalled the game and this time reinstalled it from the site instead of from the cd's I got when I purchased the game and each dlc. The problem this time is after reinstalling everything and updating to 3.4.2 I noticed that I did not have rising sun or the grand camp installed, the game prompted me to purchase those. I dont know why it didnt install those since I have them on my other computer and had them prior to reinstalling but they were not installed. So Im wondering if I missed something along the way like an update. I would like to know the proper order I should install everything including patches so Ill have what I purchased installed and this wont happen again. Here are the dlc's I should have: the original oob pacific game with the pic of the soldiers not the us navy cap on the box, us marines, morning sun, winter war, blitzkrieg, kriegsmarine. I do not have a cd of rising sun or us pacific. If Im not mistaken those where "free" to those who had already purchased the original game when the game was changed from oob pacific to oob ww2 and things where reorganized so I did not get the cd for those 2 dlc expansions and I do not have the keys to those 2 registered on my account. The series is getting so big now that its getting hard to remember the correct order to install everything and a new dlc is getting ready to come out, sadly 5 days after my 6 year reward discount expired, it expired yesterday the 12th. Well if a dev could help me out on this I would appreciate it. Maybe this will fix my problem. I look forward to the next expansion, Burma Road, if I can get everything reinstalled correctly by then. Thanks Paul

Paul, I moved your thread to the Tech Support forum. It left this copy in the General Forum as a placeholder but it now resides in Tech Support.

Below are the notes that I have kept so far on Game Installation and Updates:
Game Installation and Update Notes

Install files in this order:

OrderOfBattle-WWII-SetupRelease-v248
OrderOfBattle-WorldWarII-UpdateComp-v342 *
OrderOfBattle-USPacific-SetupRelease-v248 (DLC - key required)
OrderOfBattle-RisingSun-SetupRelease-v248 (DLC - key required)
OrderOfBattle-MorningSun-SetupRelease-v225 (DLC - key required)
OrderOfBattle-USMarines-SetupRelease-v238 (DLC - key required)
OrderOfBattle-WinterWar-SetupRelease-v250 (DLC - key required)
OrderOfBattle-Blitzkrieg-SetupRelease-v296 (DLC - key required)
OrderOfBattle-Kriegsmarine-SetupRelease-v330 (DLC - key required)

* This update advances the program version to 3.4.2. All DLC with versions listed below this number can be installed. The game may subsequently auto-update to higher versions.

Note: If a problem indicated by a blank, black screen upon game start occurs, delete the contents of the C:\Users\[name]\Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - Pacific\Settings folder and restart the game.
One other thing: If you think Avast is causing a problem, look for a gameplay or suspension mode in that program to use while you install the game and maybe even when playing it. Also, often with anti-virus programs you are able to edit what folders for it to constantly look at. If you feel confident, see if you can remove the OOB game folders from its scanning and monitoring.

By the way, U.S. Pacific and Rising Sun are not free. A key must be purchased for each of those campaigns.

Thanks for the info. I wrote down the order so Ill remember it. I also figured out how to get all the expansions. It appeared that all I needed to do was find Rising Sun in the list of games then click on register link and put in the key I got with the original OOB Pacific game, prior to it becoming OOB WWII where the Japanese and American camps became separated into individual dlc's, and it accepted the same key for both US Pacific and Rising Sun dlc. So now I have all the expansions registered and keyed. Again thanks for the quick reply. Its nice when a dev of a game responds within the same day unlike other sites that takes them weeks to reply if they reply then. I did notice something tho. When I installed the games from the website I didnt get any error messages telling me of decompression bombs that I either had to abort, try again or ignore to continue with the installation, the ignore would allow the install to continue. When I would install from the cd's I got a ton of those with the original game. So maybe thats something that only comes with the cd? Guess Ill find out with future scans I do. Again thanks. Paul

My pleasure, Paul. I used to be a CD man myself but I now rely on game downloads for one big reason: Say developers change something about the game and post the new version to the web site. By downloading that file, the latest version is always obtained. On the other hand, the CD will always be the version that was released at the very beginning. Normally it should not make a difference - developers usually create patches that will update over all prior game versions - but perhaps that did not happen in this case.

I am glad you were able to use your old CD registration keys for U.S. Pacific and Rising Sun. That only is right because you did buy them originally.

It sounds like Avast was not your problem after all, but keep in mind what I said about that. Windows Defender never bothers me and my games but I remember when I had Avast and AVG, I used to read about advice to suspend them or exclude game folders from them because they would sometimes interfere or slow gameplay down.

This is why I use Steam. Even though I hate those large downloads. (Not an issue with OoB) Some games now have huge DLC updates and waiting for a day or two or even more while they trickle on your desktop can be unnerving. For these, i wish I had a DVD retail version and just the updated files came from the interwebs.
