Tinkering a bit with a Late Republican Roman list with Numidian allies I might take for an upcoming tournament. Most of the opponents are unmanly medieval players so it will have to cope with a fair share of Kn:
- Fortified Camp - 24
- FC - 50
- TC - 35
- 4 x Legionaries (HF/sup/arm/skswd/if) - 56
- 4 x Legionaries (HF/sup/arm/skswd/if) - 56
- 4 x Legionaries (HF/sup/arm/skswd/if) - 56

- 4 x Legionaries (HF/sup/arm/skswd/if) - 56
- 4 x Legionaries (HF/sup/arm/skswd/if) - 56
- 6 x Cretan archers (LF/sup/bow) - 36
- 6 x Scutarii (MF/if/swd) - 42
- 2 x Elephants - 50
- 4 x Gallic Cav (Prot/avg/lspear/swd) - 36
- Numidian Ally TC - 25
- 4 x Numidian Cav (LH/Jav/Lspear) - 28
- 4 x Numidian Cav (LH/Jav/Lspear) - 28

- 8 x Javelinmen (LF/Jav/lspear) - 32
- 2 x Elephants

What do you think, would this be feasible for an open all-periods tournament?
Cheers,

Not being any kind of expert would it not be better 8 base legionaries.

Based on my second only game of FoG where my Free Company army came up against a Roman army. As my Men at Arms (foot) were Armoured Sup HvyWeap the Legionaires were armoured sup as well in melee combat the legionaries had +POA being Ssw. Against LB the Legionaries would be about ++POA I say about because my opponent was new as well and thought he might not win. As I used LB in 6s IMHO they will not do enough shooting damage against legionaries to compensate for the differences in close combat. So against medieval that is dismounted you need to get your legionaries in fast and close against his foot men at arms and the archers. I think legionaires in 4s will work well.

The heavies work well as four-paks. They have been slaughtering the Spanish consistently (althout GETTING them INTO combat takes forever since the Spanish do everything in their power to delay the inevitable hit).
I gave up on using rear support for them...they rarely needed it...IF they got into the Spanish (whether MF or the HF Celtiberians) they tended to over-power after the initial impact.
The BEST thing in the army after the legionaries is the Gallic cavalry ARMOURED & SUPERIOR. TWO four-paks have held their own against just about everything. ARMOURED gives them a big advantage in many combats. One glorious round today saw one 4-pak roll four '1's and they rerolled and hit four times!
I've run 2 elephants and they've been okay...just brittle...one death loss and kablooieee...the game today saw Pompey leading them against renegade Romans...it was soon elephant-burgers!
Light Cav has been good...delaying on flanks...just don't charge LF...I keep getting stuck in and then caught and slaughtered by other stuff!
The Cretans are good in a 6-pak double-ranked, very narrow shooting frontage better able to target one enemy unit, plus rerolling 1's...good chances of causes tests on small units anyway.
