We are also planning to launch a ladder for the game pretty much as we did for Commander Europe at War. Commander Napoleon at War is PERFECT for multiplayer and ladder/league since you can play some scenarios in 30-60 minutes in tcpip and same day for PBEM (some scenarios are less than 10 turns even). We will see how it works out, I might even balance some scenarios especially intended for 50-50 chance multiplayer so that they are very even.

I was one of the two testers doing a pbem, but unfortunately we did not finish before the beta ended. Worse luck, it was only after a few turns had elapsed that we discovered that screenies are not automatically saved in pbem (which they ARE when playing the AI).firepowerjohan wrote:We had some beta testers that were doing a PBEM they should be posting it here soon I hope
So, I am afraid we somewhat fumbled the ball.
What I can tell you is that in our two games which we ran side-by-side (one 1805 campaign, one 1812 invasion of Russia), we found Russia to be very resilient, and just like in history, winter saved her! The key for French victory in Russia would appear to be having lots of artillery, and finding a good, defensible stop-line before winter. Then it might be possible to capture Moscow in the spring of 1813.
The naval aspect was a lot of fun too---more so for the English (beating up French ships of the line is so much fun!) Privateering was a very worthwhile activity, because there are horses to be captured, and sooner or later, everyone has a horse shortage (well, maybe not the Russians).
Chance favours the prepared mind.

I know ppl are dying to see some screenshot from your epic battles already. In fact, I tested it myself and PBEM does save screenshots. Did the PBEM do any autosave because the autosave should be in same folder as the jpg screenshot.
Any chance we get to see a quick battle soon?
By the way, you could also make an AAR vs the AI if your opponent is not available. Playing for example 1809 or other scenarios that are less than 10 turns should make for a quick but instructive AAR on how the combat works in practice

My impression is that the PBEM requires a manual save of screenshots---whereas a game against AI will autosave.firepowerjohan wrote:I know ppl are dying to see some screenshot from your epic battles already. Anyway, sleep is over-rated, so tonight when all of you in Europe are happily snoozing away the wee hours of the morning, I will play a game against the AI, and post it ASAP.

Thanks again!
By the way, you shoud get a .dat save in your pbem folder as an autosave when you end turn. Did you see it? It should save the jpg to same folder, so check the date of the file created so you are sure being in the right folder.
Are you sure you did not install the game to the same folder as you installed it when you beta tested? Because if you did, you will have some old data/pbem, data/save, data/tcpip, data/hotseat folders left that are no longer used.
The are in /user/cnaw/data/ now.
