Playing scenarios without playing campaign

Post by s112233 »

Is there anyway to play a scenario, for instance Midway, without having to play the whole campaign?

Certainly! Once you have played through a campaign, the scenarios remain open to you for individual replay.

However, what if you don't want to play through the campaign to get to Midway? The normal procedure is that the next scenario is not revealed until the previous scenario has been won.

The developers recently allowed for this by providing a special cheat code:
#gimmeall - Unlock all scenarios for individual play despite campaign status (used only in the Main Menu screen).

So, in the Main Menu screen, press SHIFT + C to open the Command Console and then type "gimmeall" (no quotes) in the dialog box. Click Confirm:

Then, when you go to play Scenarios, click the U.S. Pacific folder and all scenarios in that campaign should be available to you:

The developers make the cheats? I thought they were added by shady hackers that are too lazy to play through games fairly. I sure don't know anything about programming.
I only ever used a cheat once. It was GTA game I used the cheat to get the army tank so I could be the merciless destructive psychopath I secretly yearn to be. Unfortunately the game was rigged to become sabotaged if a cheat code was enabled so I lost access to some of the game areas and features after the cheat.

Yes, for example:

I firmly believe that cheats are necessary to computer games; the more complex and difficult, the more they are needed to enhance the enjoyment of all. If one does not want to use them, one does not have to, of course. However, in a situation like this where one wants to play just one scenario . . . or one needs more resources to get through a difficult scenario . . . or one just wants a bit more time (that's me, often) . . . cheat codes add to the enjoyment (or reduce frustration). That's why good game designers will design and publish their own cheat codes and not allow/depend on hackers to do it for them.

Thanks bru888... That was just the thing I needed. Also GiveWarAChance, I personally don't like cheat codes if it gives you more resources to help you win, but I don't consider this cheating. I just got the game and the DLCs and right now I am playing the Rising Sun Campaign (specifically Bataan), but I just wanted to see what some of the different scenarios were like in the other campaigns, such as Blitzkrieg, Winter War, US Pacific, etc. It will take me a while to get through all the campaigns to open up the scenarios, so I just wanted a sneak peek as it were. And as bru888, there are times that I wouldn't mind playing just one scenario from a different campaign to give me a break.

Once again, thanks to both of you for your info.... Hopefully I will get a cooler icon soon instead of a Opel Blitz troop truck!!!

The devs for either this or PzC have previously said that they set the cheats up more for testing than anything else. If you are making a map and want to know if 20pp/turn is enough or not, it can be bothersome to play it, find you run out twenty turns in, and then go into the editor and make a change, then have to play it again. Much quicker to throw the change into a quick code and get on with the test, and make a more lasting change later.

That's undoubtedly true but I reiterate the other aspect of cheat codes actually adding to player enjoyment by either relieving stress and frustration or by allowing more gameplay flexibility. Purists may eschew cheat codes and rightfully so. Others may not wish to be so dogmatic and have more fun in the bargain. Smart game developers, in my opinion, are aware of this. Hence the willingness of this game's developers to be forthcoming about cheat codes.
