Did Fog of War Disappear?

I played the game many years ago and recently repurchased the base game. I recall there was a fog of war based on LOS. Was that feature removed at some point?
I'm running v. 1.8.1 on a new MacBook. TIA for a response.

FoW is a feature selected by the person setting up the battle, Skip. If the person who set up the battle chooses not to have FoW, or omits to tick the check box, then FoW will be absent when you play.

Thanks much, Mike. I was working my way through a few low complexity scenarios to refamiliarize myself with the game and I thought I remembered being surprised by a contingent of Scots emerging from the north woods in Otterburn when I first played it years ago. I guess that scenario has been modded since then because I also don't remember the map being quite as large either. This might just be age related, but that's okay since it vastly improves replayability.

According to an ancient thread I need to have one of the army packs to unlock the FOW feature. Okay, that's doable. However:

Does it require a particular pack?
Which would be best for playing PBEM? (I would expect to get all of them eventually.)
