intercept charges, interpenetration, and evades

Post by vakarr »

Hi, I was faced with this situation: My heavy cavalry were facing some LF which were backed by some enemy heavy cavalry about 1 MU behind them. I charged the LF and my opponent declared an intercept chage by his heavy cavalry. What is supposed to happen...
(a) if the enemy heavy cavalry was within my charge reach?
(b if the enemy heavy cavalry was not in my charge reach?
(c) Do the LF evade?
(d) Is an intercept charge perpendicular to its target allowed ie we were lined up head to head and he only had to charge straight ahead, he was not crossing my path at an angle??

Off the top of my head he could not intercept charge as you cannot make any interpenetration during a charge.

Nik is more than off the top of his head, he is correct.

Remember: Intercepts can only go straight forwards and cannot change formation or go through anything. Unless the intercept charge would then itself be contacted by the original chargers in its flank, in which case it can wheel.

If the LF were not in the way:

a. The En cannot intercept as they would be a target
b. The En Cav would move forwards far enough to be in the way of your charge, stop and then you would move your charge into them.
d. You cannot intercept if you are a target. If the En were 6 MU away, therefore not a target, they could intercept and move forwards into you charge path(if nothing is in the way)

If the LF were/are there

c. Yes they would evade. They would roll a vmd, your chasing Cav would roll a vmd, may or may not catch them and may or may not hit the En Cav behind who cannot intercept charge

Thanks a lot, that makes it a lot clearer, I thought that the turn order was evades, then intercepts but in fact it's the other way around (p168) and therefore he must interpenetrate to charge.
