Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Thanks - we really do need some more feedback so the more people that can check it out the better!
Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
I downloaded the Mac Beta and tried it out. Mac Pro late 2013 OSX 10.12.3
To test played Formation from US Corps 42, badly. Lost a core unit. My play was much better on my iPad Pro.
Appears to an iPad port to Mac not a Windows port, a little disappointing.
Can not find saved games. They show up in game, but search on file system does not show files.
No replay section in load game window.
No library function.
No Cheat codes?
The graphic scaling tracks the iPad display not the windows graphic display.
Does not require reading glasses for my old eyes.
On a brighter note, last week I loaded Allied Corps [v1.20] on my Mac using Crossover. Crossover is a commercial wrapper for the free wineskin project.
The game ran, but when starting the campaign the game hung at the scenario load.
Applied the 1.30 update. Success!
Played the first two scenarios as test. [Mac Air 13inch 2013]
Tried the replay function from a download from an AAR. Loaded but hung.
The Library works.
Saved games appear in /user/Documents/My Game/Panzer Corp/Save as in windows.
Cheat codes work, have to work a bit to figure the proper keys on the Apple keyboard but it works.
Requires reading glasses for small print.
Note almost everything on my Mac Air requires reading glasses.
I believe that GOG ports PG2 on the Mac using Crossover.

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Thanks for the feedback. It is a blend of the iOS and PC version so trying to get the best of both. E.g. the UI fills the screen on high resolutions when on PC it gets very small. It should be much easier to see things on M<ac than PC if you have a high resolution but you seem to think its worse? If you can screenshot the problem we can look in to it as its not what we see here.
The main map view however has smooth zooming and the same pixel density of PC so lets you have much finer control.
The cheats are accessed as per iPad currently but we want to move that back to the way you access on PC.
I'll check on library
I don't know what you mean about replay?

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
The iPad and Mac Beta versions have no replay option.
The windows version does have save and load replay available.
Correction my Wineskin port on mac can save, load and play replays. The first replay I tried was fairly large and did not appear to work, I later tried it on my windows laptop while watching TV and gave it more time. The placing of units was slow, but waiting longer and it all worked. So I picked up my Mac Air loaded a last turn save from AC and saved a replay. I loaded the replay and it played ok. So the problem was that large replays may be a bit slow.
Other things:
No compare units button in purchase window, [Mac Beta]
Cheat codes do work, I did not click low enough on the stats window.
On iPad I can select a unit in the reserve or unit list and tap in the side bar unit details and the Unit Details window comes up, in the pc versions [either Mac Beta or Windows] this does not work
I have to right click on a unit on the map. The iPad allows examination of pre-placed units, not a problem but an observation.
It's a scaling issue on display, below both from Mac Pro 2013 TrashCan.

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
The library and reply look like they are not going to be possible on mac unfortunately. Its just too big a job to convert.
Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
IMHO, the graphics getting really small on a large resolution display are exactly what you want: it makes it easier to see a larger portion of the map at once. Unless you are something like 60 years old and can't see beans up close, having small graphics and text are not an issue, and actually are helpful in this type of game.
Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Other questions: where does one place custom scenarios? Will the editor be ported as well?
Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Some quick notes:
Pros:
1. - The game button and menu text on my 2016 MBP is crisp and easy to read.
2. - Scrolling is quite smooth around the game map.
Cons:
1 - Inability to raise resolution to computer maximum (i.e. game piece icons and game map are too large). **EDIT** - now realize that scrolling up/down zooms in or out...sweet!
2. - Dialogs at the entry screen are fuzzy (likely a result of graphics not made for larger resolutions).
3. - Saved game selection text is too large.

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Thanks for all the feedback. The reality is that some of the things you are asking for are not going to be possible. The Mac conversion is an experiment to see what can be done and if it makes sense to support the Mac market. Some things ported well and some things work better on Mac than on PC and other things were not possible without prohibitive time/cost so we had to go without them.
Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Absolutely, I can understand the cost/benefit ratio.
I still am wondering what directory custom maps go in? Also, was the editor ported or not?

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
The editor unfortunately cannot be ported as its so windows centric its more work than the game strangely.
We're exploring how we'd allow custom maps to load. This might be more solvable.

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Great! I can use the editor through Parallels anyway, I was just curious.

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Wish I'd read this thread before buying the game. I do regard this as being an example of mis-selling. Nowhere in any of the material offering the game on the Mac is there anything telling the purchaser that some aspects of the game do not work - this is not acceptable.

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
Fair point, provided you know what the editor does and does not do...... but the announcement on the forum said nothing about this and it was why I bought it. Once bitten twice shy which is a shame as I have a lot of Matrix and Slitherine games. On this occasion it looks shoddy and slipshod.
An editor - in my mind - is an add on utility that allows you to edit game scenarios and other aspects and save them in a form that can then be used in the game.... for example Admirals Edition. As all I wanted was to be able to use created scenarios and graphics - specifically the 'Nato' style unit markers I never imagined I needed the editor myself to do this??

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
You don't need an editor to do this. That issue is not related with the absence of the editor.didactylos wrote: As all I wanted was to be able to use created scenarios and graphics - specifically the 'Nato' style unit markers I never imagined I needed the editor myself to do this??

Re: Panzer Corps Mac Beta
In which case I don't have a problem at all with the game as long as there is some documentation telling me what i do to add mods and change the graphics. There is nothing on screen and no help or manual obvious..... hence my confusion.
