A Little Historical Poetry to finish off the days clashes gentlemen. I think this sums up my day's events - my Jacobites unable to find a steep hill to sit on and my Swedish unable to find a uncluttered plain.

"First came the Greycoats to eat all my swine,
Next came the Bluecoats to make my sons fight,
Next came the Greencoats to make my wife w_ _ _e,
Next came the Browncoats to burn down my home.
I have naught but my life, now come the Blackcoats to rob me of that."

All I can say is the Russians won (19%) and the Swedish lost (48%) Well done Awesum4

All I can say is Bil (Jack) and Hjúki (Jill) went up the hill and the dead, armour and weapons came rolling down.

Post-scipt; Did you know that the popular and well known nursery rhyme “Jack and Jill” comes from a Scandinavian Folktale written in the Prose Edda? The well was called Byrgir, bearing on their shoulders the cask called Sægr, and the pole Simul.

Russians defeated by terrain and other Russians

My return match against Youngr was much shorter than my first round which is currently at 49/5 to 50%. We both used Russians, his side of the battlefield was open steppes, mine was a huge forest containing a lake between two impassable mountains, a river ran across the table just in front of the forest. We attempted to move through and attack out of the forest and over the river, but his army just blew me away. Just as all seemed lost a flanking force arrived, which surprised me as much as my enemy as it charged into his flank and rear (I hadn't noticed the message saying I'd sent one, I blame the vodka) but too little too late.

Youngr Russians lost 9% my Russians lost 50%

News from the Front - Mutually assured destruction Youngr's Imps (63%) vs GDod's Swedes (56%)

Stubborn units from both sides pushed the casualties to the limit. A veteran Imp horse held off two units for the majority of the battle, while Swedish dragoons played an extended game of ring a ring a rosey around some cannons with a fragged Swedish horse who survived the ordeal. Both generals and armies now have serious and semi-permanent trauma and injuries that require extended bed rest. The Imperialist army should now be called the Limps army whenever they face Swedes (not the Imps) and the Swedish force should be referred to as the Battered, sons-out of wedlock, of the Baltic (B.O.B for short) when they face Limps.

I'm off to my armchair for a restful snooze! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

What a game vs GDod! My cavalry wing was simply blown away by the Swedes and I spent the rest of the game trying to claw points back. Great game :D

The game vs awesum4 was just rotten luck on his part. His army was bottled in by terrain as mentioned above and he didn't have time to manoeuvre out - horrible!

My other game vs awesum4 turned out as:

youngr Russian (lost 48%) vs awesum4 (lost 60%). Another lucky win for me with a few fortunate follow-up combats that went my way.

As for the current games I'm playing....err not so good as am getting absolutely massacred by Hidde :(

Cheers
Richard

From the in field reporter Sven Sukoondisonejok

In an open field Jock the Jacobite was heard to exclaim “It taks a lang spain tae sup wi’ a fly Sweder!” as he took another swig of whiskey to get completely moagered ... despite fancy footwork akin to a bad highland fling, the scots lost their nerve and clearly their senses not only for finding themselves on the plains but because the line inevitably collapsed. Some highlanders found a forest in the middle of nowhere to amuse some stray swedes but overall well done hidde... some moments that made us both go oooh....aaaah...

Kelen v The Grumpy Doge (French 1691-1698 v Spanish 1689-1698)

Despite the Spanish cavalry fighting their French opponents to a standstill, and the arrival of a small flank march late in the game, it was too little too late as the French infantry rolled over their opponents.

Kelen 14% v TGD 41% (8.7 v 1.4)

Lost game vs Hidde....

youngr (Swedish) 52% lost vs Hidde (Danish) 26% lost

The Swedes were the non-salvo types and the Danes played well using their infantry flanked by woods. The Swedish cavalry did a bit of damage but lost all their infantry.

Hidde - please set up the reverse challenge (I can't remember the dates for the armies but it's the Swedish with no salvo infantry)

Cheers

News from the front special Battle of the Lets just throw our weapons away and run Youngr 8% GDod43%
Yes, the Imperialists just didn't want to hang around long enough to inflict any sort of casualties on their Swedish counterparts. Rumours abound!
Some say the muskets misfired
Other deserters say the Swedish smelled funny
Still others reported that something in the last town held sway over the men

A promising center breakthrough by a stray veteran cavalry and pike unit was swiftly put to flight and the entire collapse of the rest of the imperialist centre and wings. While a brave imperialist horse held on against two Swedish horse for the entire battle it was finally revealed that their countrymen discovered they were competing for the attention of the local Austrian beermaids back at the local tavern and eagerly left the field to the Swedish in order to be the first back.

Don't think The Grey Mouser has posted these yet, but seeing as the battle's been over a little while I thought I'd better. His Spaniards gave me Jacobites a good kicking, TGM 14% Kelen 42% (8.8 to 1.4). Unsurprisingly, an army of made up wholly highland musketeers, (ok I also had 1 horse and 1 P&S), does not do well on open ground against massed cav!

Hoping the return match will pan out similarly!

Semi-final

pantherboy (French) 29% vs 56% RBS (Anglo-Dutch)
pantherboy (Anglo-Dutch) 2% vs 8% RBS (French)

RBS felt the second game was hopeless and resigned.
