Lower res in 3D option

Post by makigono1 »

Hi Folks,
Am running into all sorts of trouble with larger maps if they have forests in them. My computer just can't handle them and it crashes. I really don't want to run in 2D mode, as the game clearly isn't designed to do so (bridges are a great example. They don't really exist in 2D mode as their own objects. The road just crosses the river. And if the bridge is blown up, the road remains. And there are other bugs associated with them being destroyed. Pontoon bridges don't show at all in any mode other than 3D world apparently.) So, is there a way to take down the size of the forest and pine forest objects? Perhaps if those were reduced in file size, that might help. Grasping at straws here, as I have already tried reducing the file size of the graphics (Graphics/Terrain/Default) and while that has had some minor effect, it still does not stop the crashing. Any suggestions?

This game really needs to run on a fairly powerful PC with lost of memory and not least a good 3D-card.
I did the original beat-testing on an old laptop, this was a real pain although it did not suffer from (many) crashes. Finally bought a PC more suited for graphics-heavy games.

Sorry, I think you're stuck with 2D until you get something more powerful.
And the game is definately worth it IMO if you can afford an upgrade.

Thanks. Yeah, a change of computer is pretty much not on the cards. Perhaps then there is a way to work around the defects that exist in 2D.

Incidentally, my Mac has 4GB RAM (Game spec is 2GB) and 1536MB video RAM (Game spec is 512) using OS 10.12.4, so drivers are as up to date as I can make them.
