Alexandrian Macedonian

Successor--almost any Hellenistic army.

Indian (some of the best figures and largest range out there) and Indo-Greek. The Thureophoroi figures are Hellenistic, and aren't armored in the eastern style, but I was able to come close with a mix of Xyston Theban hoplites, officers and generals by substituting thuros for the hoplite shields.

Mid Republican Roman--can use various cavalry types (Paionian, Thessalian etc.)

There are a remarkable number of types for Achaemenid Persian, which would be spectacular.

Thracians--you can actually distinguish between Northern and Southern tribes!

Gallic and Carthaginian foot seem well in the works, but no cavalry yet.

I haven't figured out whether there are appropriate double-armed (Javelin and Bow) LH for the Graeco-Bactrian list--is the Bactrian Light Horse too early?

you could also swing a kyrenean greek if you customise scythed chariots a little, and maybe even late dynastic egyptian.

Is there a US distributor who sells the small packs of figures - not the pre-sorted DBA armies - besides Warweb.com?

I ordered an army worth of Alexandrian Macedonians in early August. I received around 80%, the rest are "on back-order" for an indefinite period of time. I'd like to finish this army some day...

Brookhurst Hobbies has some of them--Unfortunately several of the more popular Macedonian figures are among those which are sold out. It appears they are running out their stock. On the other hand, most of what they do have is discounted. They are pretty quick turning orders around.

I have ordered from the manufacturer with less than a three week turnaround, though it's a bit more expensive with the current rate of exchange. WarWeb's backorders are problematic.

Does Brookhurst have a good web ordering system in place yet? Last time I checked it seemed like you had to phone orders in, which I dislike.
Later Carthaginians (853 pts)
Medieval Swedish (591 pts)
Later Achm'd Persian (424 pts)

I've always ordered online. You have to type in the order in a box on the form, so I usually write it up in text program and paste it in. No troubles over four or five orders this year.

could you run through the Roman cavalry options using Xyston for me. It's an army I would get if I could get cav and command for it.

I phoned in an order, and it was promptly shipped - I received it very quickly.

Thumbs up to Brookhurst!

I have Greek, Macedonian and Achaemenid Persian armies with only Xyston figures.
In my opinion Persian are the best ones.
If you need some photos I can send to you.

Will--Apologies for late post, I’ve been away.

I used a mix of different manufacturers, including Gladiator and Battle Honors (IIRC), and while I chose to do this because the Roman aristocracy dressed themselves (well, their slaves may have done the actual dressing) and weren’t uniform, there are two problems with using only the Xyston figures--they are wearing closed boots, not open Roman cavalry boots, and they don’t have the ‘popanum’ type shield with the center boss surrounded by a channel. Other Greek style shields were also used (or none at all), but you’d need to modify or make up some of this type from the various Xyston shield selections.

Xyston models I used are:
Paionian Cavalry, 320079, on this page http://www.xyston.com/acatalog/61-80.html painted here
http://www.xyston.com/site_a/images/gal ... 79_jpg.jpg
and
ANC20078-Hellenistic Thessalian Cavalry,http://www.xyston.com/acatalog/61-80.html
Only half these figures have Boiotian helmets (I used the Phrygian types elsewhere) so you could use either
ANC20043-Mounted Theban Generals, http://www.xyston.com/acatalog/41-60.html
ANC20028-Armoured Greek Cavalry with Boiotian helmets, http://www.xyston.com/acatalog/21-40.html

Not entirely satisfactory, but if you want Xyston alone, these could work for now, mixing with actual Romans once the sculptors (hopefully) get around to them.
